I found a truly lovely jumpsuit but DD is shocked I wasn’t planning on wearing a dress.

I want to go try things on, in a proper shop. Every time I find something I like online I’ve found out that’s the only way to buy it.

Im trying to lose a stone so it’s not like I can measure myself now and plan what size I’ll be.

I went to Phase Eight and was disappointed.

am willing to travel two hours from Sevenoaks in Kent for the right shop. Max budget £250 (is that stingy?).

I love JJ’s house outfits which look fab on the models but looking through the gallery of buyers photo’s feel disappointed at the amount of creases. Can’t work out if that’s lack of the right bra/underwear.

I want a more of an evening type thing, don’t want a jacket, love A line, something to possibly flatter my belly which I’m working on but not sure it’s shifting. Knee length. Sleeves a must, don’t mind length. Favourite colour is blue, def not black. I would love a wow look rather than just smart.

I’ve spent hours trawling the net these past few months, I’ve four weeks to go and I’m totally flustered now. Any thoughts would be truly appreciated.

I’ve been looking for my mum as my sister is getting engaged soon (not that she knows but we do!) and she has told me she wants a quick wedding so we may have to be prepared to move fast haha
This is gorgeous

John Lewis does free style consultations but otherwise I would just take a day off in the week and go into London. If you went to Sloane Square you have a good range of shops including L K Bennett. Do you really think you will lose a stone and be fitted for a new dress before the wedding?

Thank you Sloane Square sounds good. I’m definitely going to try losing a stone. I did it once before but it was a few years ago.

Or you could go to Bluewater, lots of shops there including John Lewis and House of Fraser with many concessions. Happy hunting!

That dress is absolutely lovely.

You said you like blue. If you like the Adrianna Papell style, this dress is easy to wear and hardly creases, also has added Lycra so stretches loads. I have a big hanging belly due to multiple surgeries and wore a pair of the short version of the Spanx shorts with it. You won’t find it in store and not many sizes around. Other stores sell it - kaleidoscope and hof but only tiny sizes.. unless they get returns. I wore this dress to a wedding this weekend. I had loads of compliments. https://www.johnlewis.com/adrianna-papell-crepe-tiered-sleeve-gown-dress-aqua/p110193583?size=14&srsltid=AfmBOorccYqccAqR-v_6X5zd9GBn-66HUwbqzuE69ZURzKIrxJpKG4zmltU

What size are you btw? I am an 18 but wore a 16. It was a bit tight under the arms. I’ve just lost 1.5 stone and actually was intending on wearing the 20 I bought about 3 months ago but it was massive so I’ll be selling that one on and got a 16.

Good luck with the dieting.

Whoops, just saw the price. Sorry.

Divebar2021 · 18/09/2023 18:17

Can we see the jumpsuit you liked?

purplecorkheart · 18/09/2023 18:22

I ordered from JJ house for a recent wedding. I agree with what you said about the photos. I returned mine back. The return fee was relatively high.

Sadly where I live real life dress shops are few and far between. Oxendales and Next were where I ordered dresses that were suitable although you really had to scroll through a lot of non suitable dresses despite many filters.

Hobbs was great for me

BIossomtoes · 18/09/2023 18:37

I have a similar dilemma. I like this. I’m planning to hire the hat in the picture.

The first one you posted is beautiful @awaynboilyurheid but Harrogate must be more than two hours from Harrogate!

This shop also stocks Rosa Clara you might have to do some phoning and tracking down but they seem to stock a range of mother of the bride dresses including Rosa Clara.

Just an added note I’m not suggesting the dress in the picture of the shop! There is nicer out there!
