Going lighter at the salon

I’ve got an appointment next week to have my hair coloured at the salon for the first time.

Im not exactly sure what I’m expecting to happen to be honest.

I currently have quite dark brown box dyed hair (which I’m tired of using to cover greys)

I’m hoping to go quite a bit lighter with a balayage sort of situation but I’m not expecting to be fully blonde or anything in one sitting.

At the consultation my stylist said I’d probably be there about 5 hours.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the process? Or anecdotes about the sort of colour is doable in the first sitting. I’m keeping my expectations low but hoping for a big change from plain old brown.

Im super excited and just want to talk about it really!

Hiya. I was in this situation last year and got fed up of having to touch up my grey roots every few weeks. It started to look very patchy! So I went for t section golden highlights with in my natural colour applied in between. I'm so pleased with it, I've kept it for nearly a year and it disguises my greys brilliantly. It takes nearly 3 hours. I only need to go every 9 weeks. I considered balayage but it wouldn't solve the grey roots problem
