Massive shirts

I’ve just bought a nice shirt from Uniqlo in the sale. I’m 8-10 and it’s a size small. It looks lovely from the front, however the back is drowns me.

I also have this issue with a linen shirt I bought from H&M a couple of years ago. Again, fits well at the front but there’s loads of excess material at the back.

I want to like the shirt as it’s so soft and from the front it looks fab, but I feel it looks daft from the side and back. If I tuck it in it sort of balloons around me.

Is this just how shirts fit at the moment, or is my back anatomically abnormal? I love shirts but haven’t been able to find one that fits nicely for years.

The shirt I bought has sold out but it’s the same as this one in the pics, in plain white. It seems to hang a bit better on her even though I think she’s slimmer than me.

How are you supposed to wear them?

This is how shirts fit these days. Everything is huge. It's pinned on thr models. But sold as a sack so manufacturers don't have to spend money on tailoring.

Yes, everything @MotherofGorgons says! I enjoy variation in proportions, and evolution in fashion - but it’s not the easiest style if one wants to look neat.

If you search ‘Fitted shirt’ on & Other Stories, a reasonable selection comes up:

I tried it on again, took it off, then put on my favourite Nümph shirt which is beautifully fitted - loose but tailored at the same time. I’m going to send the Uniqlo one back. I’m inclined to agree it’s to save money on actual tailoring. Sick of the sack of potatoes trend.

I've had this problem for years as all my chest size is out front, as a result I don't wear shirts

It looks like it’s designed to be worn out looking at the shaping on the bottom and what looks like gathering along that horizontal seam on the back.
