Was looking for something else entirely. Then I saw these. I'm getting Rachel from friends vibes. Yay or nay?

Way expensive for what they are don't ya think?

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 14/09/2023 09:13

They aren't cheap, but they are good quality. I'm just wondering if they'll be in style this winter mainly. As hemlines have got shorter etc.

Knee high boots are always in style. Great for autumn/winter.

They look nice …

My new pull on boots are crumpled to death around the ankles, without ever having left the house.

So ask yourself:

  1. Whether you have slim, dainty feet / ankles / calves. (If no, who will come to your rescue when you can’t get the blessed things off?)

  2. Whether you’ll mind if your new boots look five years old after the first trying on.

  3. Whether you can’t find something equally nice with a zip? (I have suffered so you don’t have to. 😇)

Possimpible · 14/09/2023 09:40

I really like them, but are they suitable for your lifestyle and would you get the wear out of them? Do you have a wardrobe that would go with them, e.g. can you think of 5 outfits in your wardrobe right now you could wear them with? I couldn't justify them as the answer would be not at all. It's not worth it if you need to buy all new clothes to wear with them.

Those boots are made of good leather, highly unlikely they will crumple round the ankles. Crease a little with use, yes, not crumple. And certainly not before she even leaves the house.

secondly they are designed wide fit, so unless she’s got large ankles/calves they should come off very easily and no need for a zip.

ForeverYellow · 14/09/2023 09:44

Very expensive if you are not 100% in love with them . Personally too expensive for me to ever consider them .

What makes you think mine are not? Grin

Because they crumpled before you even left the house.

MetaDaughter · 14/09/2023 10:34

Nah! The leather’s wonderful, inside and out - just my un-dainty self that’s the problem.

felisha54 · 14/09/2023 10:53

Love R&B boots. I live in mine (not these ones). I don't think they will go out of fashion and they will last years and years.

So, I actually need a large amount of new clothes as all last autumn/ winter stuff is too big and very worn out (I've not bought new clothes since pre-pandemic). So I'm looking for a really good pair of boots anyway. I think I'll go in to store and try them on and bear in mind what @MetaDaughter has said!

Crikey! I'm always shocked at how much people are prepared to pay for stuff. I've just been looking at boots and refuse to pay more than £50 absolute tops. Is it just me??!

It depends.

My all time favourites ever boots were £15 from Primark. BUT they wore out after 3 months of solid wear. And because of how they'd worn out they weren't repairable. I replaced them with a £60 pair of river island boots which lasted me the rest of that winter and a bit of the following one.

On the other hand I have a pair of r&b loafers I've had for 10yrs. They cost me £150 at the time and I've worn them and worn them. They've gone in and out and in and out of fashion, but have remained stylish work wear for almost the whole time. I'd say they were better value than either pair of boots on price per wear. However I'm not someone who tends to do high fashion, I try to buy more classic pieces and update each season with one or two items (like most people I assume).

Sorry, OP, but I absolutely hate them.

You were spot on - Very Rachel from Friends vibes. They're really, really dated.

If I saw a lady wearing them, I'd assume she'd paid a lot of money for them back in circa 1997, and that they still had some wear in them because they were so expensive. I'd assume their lack of stylishness wasn't as important to that lady as their comfort and quality.

Sorry Smile

MissInterpretation · 14/09/2023 11:36

@Puffwiththegreeneyes My absolute favourites came from Everything's £5 .com and they lasted several years 😀I then went and bought some UGG boots (Timberland style, not the big slipper-y things) in the sale for £120 and haven't dared wear them 😅
I'm sorry but I don't like the £525 boots, they look very 90s, and I really think for that price you could get something (several things) nicer. You sound very stylish so I think you'll look fab whatever you choose. I'm quite happy as a sack-tied-in-the-middle, as my mum would say 😅

Theforeverhome · 14/09/2023 11:53

I’m showing my age but those look more 70’s to me - which just goes to prove that fashion is cyclical and they may not be “in fashion” now but they will be height of fashion at some point and you will be a trendsetter. If you like them, buy them.

Gosh that’s a lot of assumptions on a pair of boots 😂

clowniform · 14/09/2023 12:39

Nay because I'm not ready to go back to heels and don't want other people towering over me either 😁
If the only thing holding you back is how fashionable they are, Rachel and 90s nostalgia in general are very on trend.

pat76 · 14/09/2023 12:48

OP did not ask for opinions re: price

I think they are nice, but I prefer a bit more pointed boots or completely square
See Vagabond- they always have something amazing

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 14/09/2023 14:57

@clowniform I'm also not sure I'm ready to go back to heels. These are the first shoe I've found vaguely tempting in that department!

@pat76 I'll take a look at vagabond. I can't do pointy at all, but quite like square, just wonder if that's a bit last year. But similarly, wondering if this is a bit neither here nor there!

It's this sort of well thought out, amusing response that makes me love Mumsnet!

I would advise to get something that you like and feel good in rather than thainking about "whats on trend";)

ilovemydogmore · 14/09/2023 15:19

They are super stylish and classic no idea what people here are on about.
Yes pricey but that's what R&B leather boots cost.

Have you looked at Massimo Dutti? They have lovely leather boots around the 200 mark.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 14/09/2023 16:53

I wouldn't balk at the price, as you'll get years of wear from them.

However, I think the part of the boot that fits on your upper foot looks a bit roomy, like a wellington, so there will be a gap at the front of your ankle? This makes them look less elegant, especially if you're buying a smaller size.
