Help me dress for interview

I have just returned to work following mat leave and am hoping to get an interview for a promotion. I have struggled to return to pre-baby weight/rebuild my wardrobe so need help finding a suitably smart outfit!

I only have about £100 to spend as I haven't yet been paid since returning from mat leave.

I am 4"10, size 12 hourglass shape. I was thinking of buying some wide legged blue trousers anyway so thought this could be a good opportunity. Would these be ok or too cheap?

I really like this but on me it would be too low cut.

You must miss the Petite range at Top Shop, if you’re old enough to remember it, @411sleeper?

Depending on your proportions, I’d be surprised if you can’t find anything at & Other Stories, as above, Reformation, Sister Jane, Uniqlo, or Zara. (Obviously you’ll have your own feelings about ethical production with any brand.)

I don’t understand what the problem is with patterned shirts for a job interview? I had a friend say the same thing to me before a job interview earlier this year about a dress I has chosen for to wear. Do people seriously only wear patterns on holiday? Patterned blouses are so much more forgiving that plain colours.
Don’t pick that blouse if it will be too low though, you’ll be worrying about it the whole time.

Agreed. I wore a yellow patterned shirt to my recent interview and I got the job, so it can't have been that offensive.

@Rebootnecessary thanks, good thing about M&S is i can go and try a load of stuff on so i may see if the little one allows that today.

Im also considering something like this shirt and these trousers

That shirt and trousers look great @411sleeper

These are a great combo. Not such a fan of the scooped neckline top in your other post.

Now that I can see your last two links - I agree the plain shirt is a better choice. (Though I think you could find nicer fabrics.)

Weirdly I prefer the Dorothy Perkins trousers. They seem to have more pizzazz!

Next have a huge range of office suitable clothes and a lot of their own brand come in petite.

I have an account which means that I can order, say, 6 pairs of black trousers in 2 different sizes into my local store, collect the offer and try on in the store fitting rooms. I can then return then ? 11 that don’t fit and take home the one pair that do. I only pay for the one pair when my account bill comes in a few weeks later.

My advice to someone as petite as the OP is to go for a dress as it’s easier to find one garment to fit . Also you avoid the bunching around the waist that can happen when you try to tuck a too long blouse into the slightly too high waist of the trousers.
