Is this dress suitable? Would rather not buy anything new

Yes that's fine

I've been to Ascot in a special boxed off area.

Don't wear spiky heels, mine kept sinking into the grass.

HappiDaze · 13/09/2023 13:16

To be fair outside of the VIP type areas where I saw people walking around they didn't seem particularly dressed up.

My number one tip for the races is, no matter how much you are dressing up, wear shoes that you can walk comfortably in or take emergency flats. It's awful the number of women at the races who are limping or having to carry their shoes by the end of the day.

I prefer dress 2 for autumn.

Depends on venue and time of year!

TodayInahurry · 13/09/2023 13:39

You will probably be freezing in October, you will need a coat!

bridgetreilly · 13/09/2023 13:52

I would not choose either of those for October!

What to wear depends a lot on what racecourse and event. Most things are not Ascot or Aintree and you would look ridiculous if you dressed like that. But if it is a special event (often still called Ladies’ Day) then you can go a bit more glam. But you’ll want to be warm and you’ll need to be able to cope if there’s mud.

HappiDaze · 13/09/2023 14:02

That's true whatever you wear will be covered by a coat anyway

Ilovelemonandsugarpancakes · 13/09/2023 16:24

It's the season finale in Chester if that helps

Which enclosure are you in, OP?

Oldermum84 · 13/09/2023 19:56

I would wear jeans and a fleece!

No denim at Chester unless you're in the picnic enclosure.

Definitely dress up - a smart coat over one of the dresses you've picked would be ideal.
