What everyday trousers are we all wearing that aren't leggings or jeans?

I'm wearing leggings far too often and jeans make me feel so hot, looking for a comfortable everyday alternative!

I'm quite short and wide leg trousers although they look so comfy just look awful on me. I'm drowned by them. I have tried on so many pairs to no avail. I also find jeans way too hot and they feel so rough. I just want comfort these days.

Wear them with platform converse or loafers they look so much better for us shorties.

Good grief, £155 for trousers that look like something you could pick up in Primark. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Primark by the way, but £155?!

I suspect you have money to burn. 🙄

Must admit my eyebrows did twitch slightly at the price! Totally get paying that for a nice item of clothing but they look they were about £12.99

BigSkies2022 · 12/09/2023 18:53

COS wide-legged, high-waisted navy cotton trousers from last year. Mother of Pearl 7/8 length pleated twill trousers in tan. And a COS jersey jumpsuit, black. (I don't work in an environment which demands a lot of smart clothing though, and if I did, I'd probably look at some of the other MOP trouser styles, which seem to combine comfort and a bit of edge with decent tailoring. )

These range in price from £40 for the cheapest, around £300 for the most expensive. Is that alright for those who like to jump on the choices of posters here and get in a huff about someone's level of expenditure?

They are exceedingly comfortable. I’m sure some £12.99 ones are too, but I liked and wanted these. I didn’t and don’t need anyone else to 🤷🏻‍♀️

Being short of leg and wide of hip I never thought I could wear wide leg trousers. But the jersey ones from M&S are brilliant and so flattering. They come in petite lengths and are just £17.50. I just wish they did more colours or some prints.

DancingFroglet · 12/09/2023 19:30

i think if the waistlines creep any higher at M&S they might double up as long bra's.

Amyjones86 · 12/09/2023 19:35

Hi thanks for the links some really lovely pairs. Please can I ask what shoes everyone wears with wide leg trousers? Thank you

BigSkies2022 · 12/09/2023 19:48

I wear thick-soled sandals/sliders. My current ones are from COS and Marni. (£60 and £450). I also have a pair of Adidas trainers (white, can't remember the line, but a bit chunky) which look good with the Mother of Pearl, less so with the COS trousers. Sometimes I wear a pair of beige, suede open-toed wedges with the COS jersey jumpsuit if I want to do a bit more va-va-voom; but it goes fine with the COS black sliders.

I bought some of these after seeing them recommended on here and I love them. They are so comfortable but look smart still

For me, it’s pointy toes in flats and boots. I have these in red:

Also the square toed Bottega intrecciato sandal. You can find dupes of this by other brands easily too, depending on your price point.

Thank you for replying really helpful

Everlane Utility Barrel trousers

PureBlackVoid · 12/09/2023 22:25

I have these and they are the only thing I feel comfy in, they are so lightweight and ‘drape’ nicely around my waist, so I still have a bit of a shape.
All other trousers I can find are either too thick, too wrinkly, too fitted, ride up my legs or puff up weirdly around the waist (they appear to be designed to do that). I’m also just over 5 ft, so my choice of short leg (but not cropped) trousers is limited.

I wish I could find this style elsewhere as I try to avoid Shein, but sometimes they seem to be the only place that has what I’m looking for!

Please let me know the maximum we're allowed to spend, also whether it's a different amount for trousers that might potentially get mistaken for trousers from somewhere else - thanks.

JamMakingWannaBe · 12/09/2023 22:35

I'm always slightly embarrassed admitting this on here, but I've had some success with Cotton Traders chinos. They also do wide legged trousers (that do not suit me at all!)

WimbyAce · 12/09/2023 22:48

Was trying to reply to the post re the marks and spencer joggers, I like the look of those 👍🏻

FlownFeathersFollowing · 12/09/2023 22:48

Oh dear, I’m sure a few of us baulked at the idea of £155 trousers for sitting around the house in, but let’s draw a line under it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

FairyPolka · 12/09/2023 22:51

Chinos. I just love them all year round.

Shakey2022 · 12/09/2023 22:57

I felt the same so brought another pair in short, they look less frumpy and I live in them now!

Shakey2022 · 12/09/2023 23:01

I was referring to the M and S joggers ☺️

ASGIRC · 12/09/2023 23:22

I wear linen and palazzos in the summer, when it is too hot for jeans.

caringcarer · 13/09/2023 00:53

When it gets colder I've got some velvet trousers that are so comfortable and warm.

ShadyPaws · 13/09/2023 01:08

These. Probably not fashionable but comfortable, flattering on me and a change from jeans
