Help me sort my skin out

For a few weeks now , I have developed lots of spots under my skin, mainly around the mouth and nose area. The spots are like white lumps under the skin (not milia). If I squeeze my nose, I sometimes get yellow ‘plugs’ coming out. (Gross I know, sorry!). The plus are thicker than sebaceous filaments.

I am 50 and post menopausal having not had a period for over a year. I also started to use Beauty Pie’s Japanfusion products are that time. The other thing I started to do around this time was start to drink protein drinks again.

For full disclosure, I had a gastric sleeve around a year and a half ago and have lost 8 stone. I can eat regular, small sized meals and eat plenty of salad, veg and protein and I feel really well and full of energy (I just can’t overeat). When I had the gastric sleeve, a started to get similar acne together with some hair loss. All my hair grew back and the acne cleared up.

I think the acne is hormonal. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do about my skin? I recently bought a Dermapore and have been getting some ‘gunk’ out, but it doesn’t have any effect on the bigger bumps.

Lots of water

Cerave facewash

Gentle exfoliation eg with a hot cloth

Acnecide or for stronger version, ask GP for Epiduo

Spironolactone is good for hormonal acne but prescription only (and some GPs won’t prescribe, will say a dermatologist is needed).

Are you on HRT, assume not?

Sorry but I’m not clear how long you are using the new products?
it could be worth stopping for eg 2/3 months to see if that has an impact? I’d go onto very gentle products eg cerave/ LRP…
at least you could figure out if it’s from that or from something else eg diet or hormones.
I would also consider the ordinary salycilic acid possibly to clear up current problem.

Thank you…I currently use a hot facecloth and acne ice. I probably drink at least 2 litres of water a day, no caffeine or alcohol. I am not on HRT but considering going into that.

I think I will stop the Japanfusion products (I’ve been using them for around 8 weeks) and try Cerave and an acid toner or similar.

Looking at some of the ingredients of the Japanfusion items it looks like they contain pore clogging ingredients like glycerin. It definitely sounds like the right idea to stop using them especially if it coincides with when the problem started. Stick to non-comedogenic skincare.

Thanks I did wonder if it is too greasy for my skin.
