I'm getting some professional headshots take tomorrow? What should/ shouldn't I wear?

I'm slim with blue eyes and blonde hair.

It depends if they are for modelling or acting or social media for a professional role.
What are they for??

DrTERF · 08/09/2023 22:23

It's for a work profile, like LinkedIn

It will be head and shoulders, so bottoms don't matter

What. Dusted?

ODFOx · 08/09/2023 22:40

What industry?

DrTERF · 08/09/2023 23:04

Would suggest you check the website of the firm you work for (going to be working for) and others in your industry - either the profiles on individual websites or on LinkedIn and do the same.

But really anything which isn't a t-shirt will be fine. What would you wear in the office if you had a face to face (not Teams) meeting with clients? Wear that.

A neutral colour top would be fine, nothing too patterned / "trendy" so it doesn't date.

Whataretheodds · 09/09/2023 06:37

Ideally, a plain colour that suits you incredibly well, in a good neckline for you.

As PP says, nothing too distinctive

Agreed - and with long or 3/4 length sleeves.

DrTERF · 09/09/2023 10:01

Thanks.

How can I work out which necklines/ colours suit me best though?

Also watch out for the background it's taken against. White background and white top = floating head effect.

DrTERF · 09/09/2023 10:13

Are there are patterns I should avoid? Spots, stories etc?

Go to a shop with fitting rooms and grab a load of different plain tops in a variety of colours and shapes, take someone with you if you can and get a photo of every one. That way you can go through the photos and see which colours look best and which shapes.

Plain colour

What do you normally wear to work? I've had loads of these headshots taken over the years and they've just been in whatever I was wearing that day.

If we’re being filmed/photographed at work the instructions are always

plain tops (patterns particularly stripes or small ditsy prints don’t work well on film apparently)

no green

contrasting blazer/jacket/scarf (don’t have to be colours just don’t do navy over mid blue)

if you wear make up a bit more than usual
works well

if you’re a woman with long hair, wear up if you also have a collar

not sure how many of these are workplace specific as opposed to general
