Hi
ive always used Clinique foundations but am in a bit of a rut. What other brands are good for 40 somethings? I’m quite pale so I don’t want to look caked on but have redness so just want to look fresh and professional (wear mainly for work in an office)
I have a voucher for John Lewis so something I can buy there would be good too.

thank you x

Try the EL futurist hydra rescue, it’s amazing and spf 45. Very natural, glowy coverage (which can be toned down with pressed powder). I swapped to this several years ago (I’m 44). It covers blemishes and red cheeks and doesn’t make my temperamental skin break out.

I'm in my fifties and also use Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue. I also have Erborian BB and N7 Hydraluminous.
Love all 3.
They give a medium but hydrating coverage with a bit of glow.

I like the Lancome teint miracle one. It's give a subtle glow without sparkles.

Bobbi Brown intensive serum foundation spf 40, life changer for me

Mercurial123 · 08/09/2023 11:51

Surely it would depend on your skin type?

NiceUnusualDifferent · 08/09/2023 19:08

Dcypher. I was sceptical as it matches your shade using 'AI' but if the one you get doesn't match you get another free until it does. You pick which coverage you want from very sheer right through to full and what finish - matte, natural or dewy I think.

Mine was bang on when it arrived and it's the loveliest foundation I've used for a long time. Lasts, doesn't sit in lines and doesn't feel heavy. I'd really recommend.

I loved the Skin Foundation (now discontinued) but samples of the serum were too light- hardly any coverage.

I don't see what 'age' has to do with it.

If your skin is lined, you need something that isn't matte or will settle in the lines.

Otherwise, most foundation should suit depending on the coverage you want and finding the right shade.

I found Bobbi Brown has the right shade for me (Ivory) but the Sin Foundation is being discontinued.

You might like their Stick foundation or even the Long Wear but it's matte.

I did try the Estee Lauder mentioned up thread by a PP but didn't find the right shade. Ecru was too dark and the palest shade was a bit too pink. It's also very 'moist' and I felt it looked greasy. EL will give you a decent sized sample to bring home.

I'm not trying Clinique Even Better Serum which is okay. It's slightly on the matte side for me, but using a little and really blending it well helps. I think the negative reviews for it as possibly from people using too much allowing it to be really thick on their skin.

LovesJaffaCakes · 08/09/2023 19:16

I'm not trying = now trying.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 08/09/2023 19:28

43, Charlotte Tilsbury. Gives a lovely soft glow. I’m not convinced on all her products but the foundations are great.

PlumPeony · 08/09/2023 19:38

Erborian

bananaboats · 08/09/2023 20:00

I find Bobbi Brown good for pale shades

Throwaway23X · 08/09/2023 20:01

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. It’s water based and very lightweight.

idliketogetdownnow · 08/09/2023 20:15

I actually find tinted moisturiser more flattering now I'm in my forties. I don't need super heavy coverage and foundation just settles into my pores and wrinkles.

I really like Nars Radiant Glow tinted moisturiser which is very natural and dewy.

Lemonademoney · 08/09/2023 20:17

I’m on a more limited budget and actually really like the Boots foundations range. Lots of colours and quite light on my skin.

Xrays · 08/09/2023 20:19

Completely depends what kind of finish you want rather than age. I’m 42 and my favourite foundation at the moment is the NYX born to glow one.

Despite having worked for Clinique for 15 years and then Chanel for 5 I am not a great believer that spending more equals better. It’s just trial and error really.

If you are looking to neutralise redness make sure you choose a colour which has neutral or yellow tones (and obviously matches your skin colour as closely as possible). Avoid anything pink.

egowise · 08/09/2023 20:25

I love my ilamasqua foundation!

bluejumping · 09/09/2023 07:48

I use lancome teint miracle

Was wondering if i need something new as been using since early 30s

Do 40 somethings like it?

Aozora13 · 09/09/2023 07:55

I also like Bobbi Brown. I’m quite pale but with some redness and melasma so like reasonable coverage but not too cakey. Tbh I think a decent primer has made as much difference as changing foundation for me.

TheOGCCL · 09/09/2023 10:26

I second Nars radiant tinted moisturiser. Their creamy concealer is great too.

Snowfalling · 09/09/2023 11:23

42 here, and really like the Maybelline dream radiant foundation.

have tried the estee lauder futurist hydra rescue foundation mentioned upthread, and while it's lovely, I'm not convinced it's any better than the Maybelline one. and certainly not almost 40 quid worth good.

Minglinglittlesausage · 09/09/2023 11:40

What is your skin like? The older I get I tend to spot conceal areas and then some limited powder and cream blush.

LBB2020 · 09/09/2023 12:13

Shiseido synchro skin self-refreshing foundation is beautiful

Lilyminilli · 09/09/2023 19:01

Thanks for all the tips. I’ve got a sample of the EL hydra foundation and will try that over the next week to see if it’s ok. So far it’s seemed very good very runny like a milk moisturiser but it went on well and seems better compared with my old Clinique which tended to look patchy.

thanks.
