My feet are size 4.5 but really wide. Can anyone recommend a good shoe shop for this?

thanks!

I have given up on shoes and just wear the boxes....

Oddly I find next shoes bast for my feet. I have to have a width fitting and Clark's/M&S never fit properly. Gabor I rarely like the shoes (and I find this a lot with places that do wide fit tbh).

In reality I wear a lot of size 5 trainers and boots where being a bit too big doesn't matter. Actual shoes I only have a couple of pairs.

All shoe brands will make their shoes based on a particular "last" (the shape of the footbed basically) so if you find one style that works for your feet ask which other of their shoes are based on the same last/style. For instance in Hotter they have more than one last but only one suits my feet well, but of the styles made with that last they're all comfy for me.

Geox children's shoes are quite wide (adults not so much I find), some of the styles are grown up enough especially their winter ankle boots, I have a lovely pair. My very wide footed DD just got some nice geox school shoes which would be passable for the office, I tried them on and they fit my wide feet too.

Rieker quite good for wide fit trainers in one of their ranges - the more sporty looking styles like this www.rieker.co.uk/r-evolution-ladies-footwear-c158/r-evolution-ladies-shoes-c193/r-evolution-40103-ladies-shoes-p12676#attribute%5B1%5D=157 (I've had a similar pair that have lasted very well).

Hotter.... there is the odd stylish style there, but the widths are good for wide feet. I've got some nice calf length boots from there.

Sandals - saltwater are malleable and will readily stretch to accommodate wide feet (you get them wet, wear them and they mould to your feet).

M&S wide fit, although I find this hit and miss, some gems some not so great but worth a try.

Yeah, me too. Fortunately I wfh so mostly don't wear shoes at all, and the rest of the time it's nearly always walking boots, walking shoes (merrill) or sandals. It's really hard to find smart shoes to wear with a dress. I tried Hotter for the first time this year, was disappointed the store I went to had very few wide fittings available.

You could look out for European brands ( or if you holiday abroad shop then )

Sone like Think ( very expensive but my boots are 15 years old and going strong bar a zip replacement ) have different lasts one of which is wide

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/09/2023 07:50

I'm a wide 4.5 and my Mum and sister have even squarer feet

I would try, Birkenstock, doctor marten, hotter, ECCO, Clarks, M&S and Skechers. My sister raves about crocs too and wears their work clogs.

For hiking boots Scarpa

Altberg for hiking boots

Three different lasts, 5 or more width fittings , ability to buy each boot a different size, to stretch any pinch point ... heaven

Richmond Yorkshire

I also have DMs

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/09/2023 09:28

Waldlaufer do very wide shoes. I bought some sandals which are comfy but would not win any style awards. Very similar in price to Gabor, but I often see them new in box on eBay for huge reductions from RRP. I suspect people get seduced by the comfort in the shop then get home and have second thoughts!

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/09/2023 09:42

It is ridiculous my having such wide feet (same as you OP 4.5 really wide) The rest of me is slim and narrow, I look dainty as far as my ankles but then........

Libelula21 · 08/09/2023 06:53

Thanks for all the useful replies here, much appreciated.

And I think now I’m ready to give up on high heels.

On one shoe fitting I went to, the person at the store said that one of my feet was only 3.5 but I would need to wear a 5 to get shoes wide enough!

Next do an extra wide fit in some styles.

TeaAndStrumpets · 08/09/2023 11:18

I keep humming Clementine...."herring boxes without topses"

OP that shoe shop assistant was really rude, maybe it's their shoe selection that was at fault rather than your feet!!
