Does face yoga work?

I expect I know that answer but it keeps being shown to be on social media... I have a weak chin, I'd love it if it did. Does face yoga do anything other than make you look silly and asset your time?

I think it probably tones a bit.

There's a woman who scatterguns various FB groups with her "amazing" before and after photos that always makes me 🙄🙄🙄 In the "before", it's awful lighting, her head is pointing down and she's frowning. In the "after" she's in front of a ring light, looking upwards and smiling.

Make of that what you will. Anybody who asks her to do an "after" in the same exact situation as the before gets told off. 😂

Yes - I am deeply skeptical but repeat advertising works so I'm curious and questioning 🤦‍♀️😆

One of my yoga teachers (who is very down to earth and not at all woo), trained in face yoga. She looks amazing, and she showed us her (genuine) before and after photos - it was definitely an excellent alternative to Botox! She did say she overdid it initially (lockdown...), but 5 mins a day was all that was required. I've got a print out of the exercises to do daily, but of course, haven't kept it up...

Danielle Collins ('faceyogaexpert') is good for ideas on what to do.

Ooh, that's exciting. I will look her up!

I believe it can make a difference. Your facial muscles, just like all you muscles, will get softer without use.

RavingStone · 07/09/2023 06:53

I do it on and off depending on life stuff getting in the way. I think it makes a subtle difference, although annoyingly it's the kind of difference I notice more when it's gone if that makes sense?!

Must get back onto it!

This is encouraging - I am going to begin today 😆

There's no evidence it works to tighten skin, or reduce wrinkles . It's thought that it can have a detrimental effect all of the pulling and extra movement and do the opposite. It can actually cause more wrinkles and loosening. Use a toning device or even jade roller for the slight likelihood of positive results.

The best workout is chewing through a highland toffee bar (not sure they make these anymore) while reading a magazine (not sure they make these anymore either).

I’ve tried some face yoga to try to work on marionette lines & I think they’ve got worse….

We had a woman like that in one of our groups a few years ago, always wore hats or accessories she'd made. She would pose in the same position to be fair but one day she'd clearly forgotten about a small side mirror in the bathroom where her wrinkled, sagging face was revealed in its full glory. She'd been using filters all along. 😀. None of us had spotted them before.

Youmeandacupoftea · 07/09/2023 12:39

@EmmaStone that sounds great, my yoga teacher also looks fab but doesn’t do face yoga so think that just yoga must help too.
Would you mind sharing a photo of the print out you have please? No worries if not. Thanks x

YellowChrysnthemum · 07/09/2023 12:50

I'm not bothered about wrinkles - I'd like to tighten up under my chin to counteract a tendency to doubling when I look down (I'm at the lower end of BMI so losing weight wouldn't help)

Yh it does work. My PE teacher taught it to us in the late 80s and said we'd thank her when we were 40. I'm still thanking her for it in my 50's. But you need to do it regularly. Its not going to make you less wrinkly because it doesn't affect the skin but it keeps the muscles toned underneath.
Though if you can't be arsed with the exercises the electric current face machines like nuface and the cloudnine ones work. I use that too now.

quombe · 07/09/2023 13:48

It's extremely unlikely to tighten your skin, Op. it's more likely to loosen it. If that doesn't bother you either then give it a try.

YellowChrysnthemum · 07/09/2023 16:11

I don't think it's loose skin under my chin, I'm hoping better muscle tone will help. I don't yet have the wattle 😂
