Boden catalogue…

happyshineyperson · 06/09/2023 13:09

…just dropped through my door. I thought they were supposed to be doing more of what Boden customers actually want this season?

Who wants a jumper with half a Union Jack pattern in the wrong colours for £150?! Who wants jeans with wide stripes on? Who wants a patchwork paisley maxi dress with big sleeves for £240?!? Or a jumper with dog or cat faces on 😳

They don’t seem to have what I actually do want, which is a nice v neck cardigan.

Anyone else seen the catalogue?

I haven't looked at the catalogue but i did look at the "new in" section on the website. I also didn't like those dresses and jumpers you've mentioned, but online there were quite a few ponte style plain dresses that i thought looked great for work. Too much full price but i might try and pick a couple up next time theres a xx% off code through. I did think it was an improvement on the last few years tbf, but maybe my expectations are just very low 😅

BenjaminDisraeli · 06/09/2023 13:53

Yes I thought that OP - you can pretty much pick out the things that are going to be reduced, and the jumper with dog & cat faces (which I initially read as faeces😅) must be a cert. Plus the dopamine colours. I like colour but it doesn't have to scream I LIKE COLOUR, ME.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 06/09/2023 13:56

I didn’t even look at the catalogue. It went straight into recycling.

BlowDryRat · 06/09/2023 14:02

I like the military-style jackets and also the red bow front blouse on page 15. I could get something similar to that blouse from Hawkes & Curtis for half the price though!

BHRK · 06/09/2023 14:04

Actually I thought the opposite - lots of cashmere in lovely colours, decent wide leg trousers and plain jersey dresses I might wear. I’m going to order

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/09/2023 14:06

I really liked the stripy jeans. Probably not brave enough though. And the cord shirt dress!

eastiseastwestiswest · 06/09/2023 14:08

I thought the new catalogue was an obvious attempt to get back to its old MO. Gone are the trendy, "directional" styles and photos and Home Counties style is back in!

Empresstea · 06/09/2023 14:08

God I loathed it and I normally like a few things of theirs. Utterly staid, boring and old fashioned. Straight in the recycling too, sorry Johnnie 😞

I much preferred that though, I felt like we've gone back 20 years and not in a good way

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/09/2023 14:11

I’m too late for the cord dress apparently., none left in a 12. Boden still must be appealing to some people.

NorthernLiner · 06/09/2023 14:31

I like the Marylebone wool blazer and sienna silk shirt.
Oh, and the fair isle jumper on pg 79.

Notooserious · 06/09/2023 14:37

Bloody Johnnie has clearly dumped me as I haven’t had the catalogue 😠 (must be the only person on mumsnet he isn’t spamming - though autocorrect changed that to spanking, which was a disturbing mental image.) I too am in search of a nice cardigan!

Chickydoo · 06/09/2023 16:02

I liked the striped jeans too

PercyPhelps · 06/09/2023 16:05

I bought the fair isle jumper with 20% off.

twilightcafe · 06/09/2023 16:09

I like the military jacket, corduroy jeans and tweed blazer.

snygghygge · 06/09/2023 18:36

I haven't looked at the catalogue but as far as I can tell, the website is still flooded with yucky viscose dresses. I'm not coming back, Boden, until you bring back work appropriate lined dresses made from pure cotton!

Colinswheels · 06/09/2023 19:02

I kind of like the dog jumper, think I'll wait for the sale though!!

amylou8 · 06/09/2023 19:14

I'm off to find the cat jumper 😺

Quiethowlsinluditebeck · 06/09/2023 20:27

I’m really disappointed Boden are going back down the paper catalogue route. Are they genuinely unaware of the cost to the environment?

As for the clothes, it’s going to be a cheap season for me because I have the vast majority of it already. The majority of items are the same as a few years ago, which seems strange to me. They have seriously lost their way. When I say ‘the same’, I mean in terms of the designs. Literally identical. Fabric wise Boden clothing has deteriorated rapidly to the extent that clothes from much cheaper brands are better quality. The older versions will last well, these won’t.

I bought nothing from their recent suicide attempt and there’s nothing that appeals this season. Given that I usually spend a good 1K plus per season, I think Boden really needs to get a grip on style, quality, sizing etc and stop the paper catalogues which are a waste of paper and the carbon footprint of them being posted everywhere is horrendous too.

dressedforcomfort · 06/09/2023 21:03

This is quite an interesting opening page - clearly someone has finally taken note of who their target audience are....

Boden catalogue…
Screamingabdabz · 06/09/2023 21:10

I did get quite excited about a sit down with a coffee and the new Boden book with its grovelling apology… but then everything looked dull and frumpy even on the skinny models so they’re definitely going to look grim on this fat frump.

Nope. Recycling. Relief at not being tempted to spend more money.

Britpopbaby · 06/09/2023 21:17

I like this https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/holly-cropped-knitted-jacket-navy-ivory/sty-k0708-str?cat=C1_S2_G6 but the price is something I am not prepared to pay!

NorthernLiner · 06/09/2023 21:33

@dressedforcomfort

Hmmm… very interesting, mine is worded slightly differently-

Boden catalogue…
Sobersister · 06/09/2023 21:56

And I didn't get one. Sulking now though tbf, I'd not know what quality I'd be ordering and have some stuff last years and a Breton that's so thin it's like tracing paper

D20 · 07/09/2023 07:14

@Quiethowlsinluditebeck If you are spending £1k a season on clothes I’m not sure you can say the paper catalogues have a massive environmental impact lol.

No catalogue here but I’ve had a look and the scary sounding jumpers were actually okay. There are a few pieces I’d buy/wear but actually I already have them from elsewhere ie cord dresses from Toast, jumpers from uniqlo, green Boden trousers from many years ago.
