I got an amazing charity shop bargain today

And I'm so excited, this never happens to me!

Was in a city I go to rarely, maybe 1-2 times a year. Had 15 mins to kill at a bus stop, charity shop right there, went in for a browse.

Found......... Johnstons cashmere cardigan, thick as anything, could be used instead of a coat it's that chunky and soft and weighty, 15 quid! 15 quid!

I've lusted after a really super thick, long, black cashmere for years and there it is in a charity shop 🙃

Bit of pilling but I can remove that.

Anyone else got anything amazing lately?

Several. A couple of weeks ago I got a beautiful pair of chunky soled flat ankle boots for £3. Today, I got a designer t-shirt and a pair of high heeled stiletto suede ankle boots (brand that looks a bit like the POTUS's surname) - both look as good as new. My friend gor a pair air max nikes and a new pair of Primark Joggers. Between us we spent £8.20.

Not sure if they compare to the cashmere cardigan. Quite envious.
Just before Christmas, I got a long cashmere waistcoat from a known brand (poetry), to which someone had attached some hideous frills of polyester, for £2.50. A few minutes with a seam ripper and the waistcoat was gorgeous.
I gave it as a Christmas present and it was well received.
I've also found a couple of Johnstons merino cardigans for £2 each and a brora jumper (not cashmere) for £1 in the past.

I previously found a Stella McCartney chunky cardigan for £15 but the colour was awful on me so I sold it. Today I discovered a man’s vintage blazer in a dark green velvet. Great sharp cut. Cost £16.

Can we see a picture please

Not recently, but about a year ago, I saw some black ankle lace up boots in dd's size in a charity shop for £10, looked almost new and I could tell they were real leather but I didn't know the brand, Frye, at all. I bought them for dd and looked up the company and saw that this model sells new in the UK for £329. It seems it's one of the oldest US boot/ shoes company.
They fitted dd perfectly and she says she's worn them every day throughout winter.

Those all sound gorgeous and highly bargainous, glad the dubious frills were removable 😅

That sounds very cool

Yes indeed, I'll take one tomorrow when the light is better as it's very dark and dense!

Great boots are the holy grail. I have really awkward feet so am always on the lookout. Lucky DD!

You won't get any bargains in a BHF charity shop, their prices are now ridiculous, M&S t shirts £4.99, Matalan jeans £9.99, Primark jumper £9.99. Staff member said the prices come from head office.

Illbebythesea · 02/09/2023 23:51

I look more for the kids/house than clothes…

Jelly cat soft toys for £1 each. There was a whole basket full to pick through - someone had obviously donated their whole collection!

A very nice garden table & 6 chairs for £50.

Really lovely wooden mirror with a shelf underneath, it’s in the hall & I get compliments all the time on it. Looks hand made. Fiver.

Absolutely gorgeous vintage Christmas tree stand/holder thing. It’s like a red box with gold trimming, I absolutely adore it, probably one of my favourite buys and it was £2 in Salvation Army. £2

Vintage child’s school bench/rocker. Looks lovely in the kids room £30.

Vintage children’s chair which I painted bright yellow - £3.

I’m off to the car boot tomorrow! Yay!

BonjourCrisette · 03/09/2023 00:09

I got a long Agnes B leather coat for £50 in our local charity shop. Still can't quite believe it!

ichundich · 03/09/2023 00:13

I found a good as new MaxMara cardigan recently for £15, but haven't had much luck apart from that for a while. I had a quick look in our local charity shops today, but was turned off instantly by the proverbial bobbled Primark t-shirts for £4.50. Vinted is my goto now.

AdoraBell · 03/09/2023 00:18

I never find bargains in charity shops, obviously live in the wrong place.

I’d love to see a picture of your bargain find OP, and that men’s blazer sounds lovely.

NutellaNut · 03/09/2023 00:48

Yep, I got a beautiful grey military style coat for £14.99 in a charity shop this week. Never heard of the brand, but could tell by looking at it that it was quality. It’s made by Gerard Darel. Googled it when I got home and coats by this brand are £495 upwards at John Lewis!

Bookworm12345 · 03/09/2023 01:08

Dd got a big Build-a-bear cat with clothes for 50p - she was delighted!
Our local YMCA is awesome though, at one point they had a two and three seater sofa for sale (without covers) for around a £5. They often have furniture for a few pounds too, 10 books for £1 etc. We support them well and donate often.

Patchesofdrizzle · 03/09/2023 02:14

Bloody hell, my local ones are generally £5 for a ratty t-shirt, £15 for a pair jeans, where are you shopping????

Wow, they were a find. Frye make beautiful leather goods. I had a bag once, which I bought on an auction site, and it was gorgeous, fabulous quality.

Trumpton · 03/09/2023 05:45

Pair of gold Doc Martens for DGD who is 7 years old. Absolutely perfect £4.
She is thrilled to bits with them.

tuvamoodyson · 03/09/2023 07:15

A gents quilted Barbour jacket………………£5

Hedonism · 03/09/2023 07:22

We have an small local charity shop so all of the donations stay local (I think in some of the bigger ones they get sorted centrally and redistributed). Anyway, the charity is well supported by lots of people who dress their own kids in mini-boden and John Lewis, so that sorted my dd's wardrobe for years.

RedVanYellowVan · 03/09/2023 07:52

A mirror for £3, exactly the right size and style.

A shirt of unknown make in a lovely cut and pattern. Everyone says how beautiful it is. £4.

A White Stuff bag, still with the label on. £2.50.

DS got a slightly battered coffee table for £5, sanded it down and painted it.

Love a charity shop bargain.

ManyATrueWord · 03/09/2023 07:53

There is an Emmaus near me that has been very fruitful recently.

Five lead crystal glasses to match my mother's wedding pattern for a pound each.

A Pilates ball the day after my child expressed a wish for one. Child loves sitting on it!

Two Gillian Cross books I read as a teen that I want to read again.

Stories for 9 year olds that I have wanted to track down for years to see if the story I remember really was Saki. Surely not in a children's book. But yes, it was.

Two generic trophies I will use for PTA stuff 50p each.

A Kenwood Chef mincer attachment I have covered for years for £4. Shame I can't remember what I was so desperate to mince!

tuvamoodyson · 03/09/2023 08:30

Oh! A Max Mara Weekend puffer coat for £25!
