And I'm so excited, this never happens to me!

Was in a city I go to rarely, maybe 1-2 times a year. Had 15 mins to kill at a bus stop, charity shop right there, went in for a browse.

Found......... Johnstons cashmere cardigan, thick as anything, could be used instead of a coat it's that chunky and soft and weighty, 15 quid! 15 quid!

I've lusted after a really super thick, long, black cashmere for years and there it is in a charity shop 🙃

Bit of pilling but I can remove that.

Anyone else got anything amazing lately?

mandarina duck bag for £7
hobbs jacket for £6
large seasalt handwoven bag for £2

Red virgin wool and cashmere Betty Jackson coat for €40. And it fits me!!!

DaphneduM · 03/09/2023 09:00

Marks and Spencer pure wool double breasted long coat, dark brown - perfect condition - £8.50. Looks just like those that are coming into Net A Porter for autumn/winter 23. Beaufort and Blake brand new 100% wool jumper £12.

But I have to say I buy most of my stuff on Vinted now. My best buy - a brown leather coat for under £5 including postage. It had a small rip on the arm that I patched and repaired using a leather repair kit and you absolutely don't notice it.

Lots of our local charity shops seem to have reconfigured their shops with specialised vintage rails, and seem to have put their prices up. Ok for the once-in-a-blue-moon lovely find, not so good for the generic stuff.

A Mulberry Roxanne for £39.99, from Age UK. 100% genuine. Also a Mulberry scotchgrain cosmetic bag for £2.50 from Scope. M&S suede taupe knee length cowboy boots for £5.00 from a local charity shop. These were unworn.

A few years ago I bought a brand new silk lined, wool swing coat from some Italian independent designer. It was still on the designer's website for £350.

Cost me a tenner. I still love it.

I got a Max Mara blazer in a linen wool mix in a medium-light, neutral colour for £25. Think it would have been £500+ new. I bought it the day before I went on a city-break when the weather took a dip, and it went with every single thing I wore & took it all up quite a few notches. Even if I never wear it again I got my money's worth.

My DH found a new with tags linen jacket Jaeger fits perfectly still for sale in M&S on line.Paid £25.Save the children in Teddington.Wonderful clothes there whenever I have visited.

Am 75 and have loved 2nd hand/charity shops for 50 years since finding a leather bag in a shop, long since demolished to make way for John Lewis in Kingston. My daughter uses the bag and I am pre-loved from top to toe. Best purchases are a Celine bag for 5.00 many years ago and a Nicole Farhi bag for 20.00 15 years ago which is still in daily use.

TeSe81 · 03/09/2023 12:36

Ooh, recently the charity shop gods looks kindly on me. A nicely cut navy blazer from Austin Reed (is that company long gone?) for £15 one week and a never worn pair of Ecco suede chelsea boots in my size for £19.95 the next!

RichTeee · 03/09/2023 14:52

I went to a local CS yesterday and everything was £1. I spent £37😳

But amongst my hoard I got some madewell denim culottes, a few pairs of crazy patterned wide trousers which I had decided recently were going to my look for winter.
I got some nice skirts and a few pairs of shorts and linen dresses from next still with tags which will suit my mum for her winter sun holiday.

Very tempted to go back for another look on Monday

A quick picture for the poster who asked. I went at it (gently) with a depilling comb and it came up beautifully. Not sure if you can tell from the pic just how thick and warm it is, but, well, take my word for it 😍

Scuse the PJs!

Loving reading about all the finds, especially the bags and coats. I'm a bit addicted to coats.

Ooh lovely OP, good health to enjoy.

Mil bought a bangle for £1.79 about 5 years ago & showed bil her purchases when she got home. He was sure it was 18ct & real diamonds & sure enough, took it to jewellers & it was a genuine Chopard floating diamonds worth £5-£6k.

I used to get great stuff but not so much lately.

Ruby and diamond bracelet £4. It was in amongst children's plastic necklaces and bangles. Liked the colour of stones, showed it to a jeweller friend to fix the clasp who told me what it was. I love it.

Pushkinini · 03/09/2023 20:47

Not a charity shop find, but we have a lot of lost property in my job. Staff get first dibs before it goes to the charity shop. A while ago I managed to get a beautiful grey pure cashmere wrap which, when I googled the brand, was £400 new.

tinselvestsparklepants · 03/09/2023 20:51

Bought a painting for £5 - turns out the artist is quite collectible. Found another one of his online for £££ but I'm not selling mine. I love it.

LunaTheCat · 03/09/2023 20:58

Oh that looks gorgeous!
Just the right amount of slouch and structure!

muddyford · 03/09/2023 21:08

I bought a carved sperm whale tooth (scrimshaw work ) for £6. Similar reproductions in resin are £120.

Decafflatteplease · 03/09/2023 21:09

Not recently but my wedding dress! Oxfam, BNWT, £150! And it was stunning 😊

FKATondelayo · 03/09/2023 21:12

I'm so jealous of people who live near good value charity shops. Where I live it's very much of the Boohoo/Primark/New Look bobbled polyester tops for £8 genre. Anything else goes eBay or to head office.

Example - I saw a Big Bang Theory promotional tshirt in there this week for £4.50. A promotional tshirt for a past it TV show. Four pounds fifty.

That said DH once picked up new Paul Smith jeans in his size in Crouch End Cancer Research for a fiver.

Your cashmere cardy is lovely.

It is absolutely gorgeous but may I very strongly advise that you put it in the freezer for a couple of days just in case of moths? Once you introduce them to your wardrobe they are an absolute bastard to get rid of.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 03/09/2023 21:15

PS the Philips electric fabric shaver is absolutely brilliant for pilling.
