Are swim protector creams worth it

Hi

i have started swimming, but have bleached hair. I have made my hair wet and used a swim hair protector cream, this one
https://www.johnlewis.com/philip-kingsley-swimcap-water-resistant-mask-75ml/p6130729?size=75ml&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_vndpOWLgQMVRNbtCh2D4gNjEAQYASABEgLF8vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

and then cap over.

it seems to work well but is a very small tube for the money and doesn’t last that long.

I tried a cheaper one , this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AquaGuard-Pre-Swim-Hair-Defense-pack/dp/B01IC6PVN4?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1

but after I wash it out and condition it seems more lank and greasy . I don’t get that with the more expensive one and using the same shampoo and conditioner .

are these products just fancy conditioner ?

anyone else use them or something else to protect hair ?

I know caps don’t keep hair totally dry, so need to protect hair.

thanks

PK swimcap is annoyingly good. I’ve never found anything as effective, which is irritating because as you say, it’s pricey. Boots used to do an own brand version which was an 8/10 but they discontinued it donkey’s years ago. QVC often do PK on their special value, worth checking there for swimcap.

It is good . The other one got good reviews but my hair feels a bit lanky and greasy , it doesn’t with PK.

are they just conditioners really ?

I’ll take a look at qvc .

Wish could buy cheaper in bulk !

Not on QVC page at moment, but will keep an eye out .

it’s odd Boots stopped their. You’d think more would use it .

M and S has PK swim mask.

Oh I’ve used it, but it’s so expensive for the size and how long it lasts when swim three times a week !

I’ll check the price there though. Thanks.

My pool insists you rinse your hair before getting in as any product worsens the water quality.

HappiDaze · 03/09/2023 12:11

I just wet my hair first, very important to do this, then I apply PK elasticiser not the swimcap stuff I don't like that, or a thick conditioner then just wash as usual

I do that but with the swim cap product and then put actual cap on my head . The product doesn’t leak out of cap into water .

Perhaps conditioner is just as good ? I’m not sure what the difference is !

I have a shower first and wet hair, put product in and then swimming cap and it doesn’t leak into pool.

If your hair gets wet then it does leak into the pool! Anyway, if the pool isn't bothered it's not a problem.

It seems to be the advice on swimming websites . Didn’t realise.

It’s great, but I swim every day and cannot afford it sadly

Do you use something else ? I do wonder if a very conditioner would be as good .
