Help! New work wardrobe

3isthemagicnumberrr · 01/09/2023 11:22

I’m returning to work from mat leave in a couple of weeks and would love some new work clothes. Current work clothes are 5-15 years old (!) and most are ill-fitting after 3 pregnancies.

Would love some ideas/ inspiration please of where to shop from/ ideas of specific pieces.

I work in a relatively senior role in a law firm so officey wear although I don’t need full on suits. Planning to go in to the office once (maybe twice) a week so probably need 4 outfits to rotate.

I used to wear a black top and some form of patterned skirt but open to ideas.

Size/ shape definitely a pear shape. 12 on the bottom, loose 10 on the top.

Thank you!

A couple of pairs of wide leg trousers-Me&Em are perfect IMO - COS/Massimo Dutti have similar at lower price point (but also not such great quality). Pair with silk shirts (Vinted amazing for new/almost new at bargain prices), simple T, sweater/tank tops.

A couple of dresses - M&S always worth a look for gems, otherwise Baujken have some great simple black dresses that can be styled smarter or more casually.

Hey OP I’m exactly same position as you! I’ve seen lots of lovely inspo on TikTok and insta. I’ve been following a few people and cultivated a work capsule wardrobe.

i have

  • Cigarette trousers in black beige and stone (all the same style from Zara £29.99)
  • wide leg navy trousers also zara
  • 1 black shirt dress pleated skirt midi (old)
  • 1 green emerald pleated midi skirt (old)
  • black boat neck body suit (asos)
  • white boat neck body suit (asos)
  • black blazer and camel blazer (both Zara)
  • green blazer (Zara)
  • black and white boucle jacket (H&M)
  • white shirt, blue striped shirt, pink striped shirt, black shirt (all Zara)
  • striped knitted vest (old)
  • black polo neck and camel polar neck for winter (old)
  • Black loafers in leather (dune)
  • Grey suede loafers (office)
  • pink and black ballet slippers (next)

i can wear any combo of the above and have sooo many options. I’m really pleased with it. I never used to buy Zara as I thought it was for skinny Minnie’s. But I’m a size 14 (16 if I’m being realistic on the bottom), breast feeding boobs and a saggy baby belly from 2 pregnancies in 3 years. And they all fit really nicely, good quality at decent prices!

I like Harriette Jones on insta (she’s a bit young) but looks classy and care free. Always buys from high street (m&s even). I’ve basically copied loads of her outfits

good luck and enjoy

Also, some of the above Zara stuff is new and some is old! I haven’t bought it all new haha
