Colour Analysis

I am thinking about getting this done but would be disappointed if I found out the deep blues and greens I wear were the wrong colour - just wondered whether anyone has had this done and either did not agree or was disappointed that the colours that suited you were not the ones you would naturally choose?

Obviously, you can wear any colour.

I just got analysed as a warm spring and trying on my new colours has made me realise my old favourites like black really don't suit me. I've just put them on Vinted

ihavespoken · 31/08/2023 09:46

Following! How do you know you've got a colour consultant who really knows their stuff? I'd like to get mine done but all the people I can find locally have websites that look like they were done in 2002 so I am not confident in them Grin

millymog11 · 31/08/2023 09:56

You can usually work out which ballpark you are in by looking online.
I'm not saying you won't get value for money if you go to a consultant who is good (because I think you will) but if you read up you can often work out the starting point at least.
Eg - blonde/fair hair, pale skin, blue eyes etc is often a spring or summer
darker hair and darker/brown eyes or red colouring is often an autumn etc

and some other basic principles such as pastel colours often do not suit autumn colouring people.

LuciferRising · 31/08/2023 10:02

I've looked on line over the years and can't actually work it out. It's the skin tone and eye colour I can't decide on.

OP posts:
hdbs17 · 31/08/2023 10:09

I would love to but the ones in my area seem to have really outdated websites.

I have tried to match myself online but I'm such an odd colouring, I can't figure it out.

I don't suit dark or light hair - but mid toned warm hair, yet have light olive skin and blue eyes which can change from dark grey blue to light green blue.

Gx44tyh · 31/08/2023 10:09

I paid around £100 for mine. It’s been worth every penny as I was stuck in a fuchsia and blue rut and it’s given me the confidence to wear different colours.

Black is meant to be one of my wow colours but I and everyone else in my family disagree as it washes me out. I’ve been given a mix of 35 colours and shades so it’s unsurprising there’s the odd thing I disagree with but overall the advantages of going through this process have far outweighed any negatives.

Some people are more difficult to analyse than others. I had mine done in about 2011 and I thought it was good. I was / am an autumn and i could tell she had sussed me as soon as she opened the door to me and i felt a bit stupid for not having worked it out before i went. Since then I would say the material online to allow you to figure it out has increased many times so if you are determined you might be able to work it out yourself.
Whilst mine was good and worthwhile, what i would say is
(1) there was (for me anyway) quite a lot of hard sell involved i.e. she wanted me and the other women there to buy her next course on what styles suited and wanted to push things like the makeup brand etc which go with the category you are in; BUT
(2) on the plus side the person who did mine did say that it is possible for your category to change, especially if you are not very "obviously" in one category or another and depending on the season (eg how tanned you are) and your age. In other words some categories are more mutable than others (eg soft autumn could morph into something in the spring cateory etc)

millymog11 · 31/08/2023 10:14

Immediately after the session I did used to take my swatch wallet and try to match colours when i was clothes shopping which is incredibly frustrating (especially if you have perfectionist tendancies like me)....this is why places like Kettlewell (I don't know of any others) can have such a successful business model because they say they match colours (I think they do only with limited success but there you go)

LadyBird1973 · 31/08/2023 11:12

I can never work out whether my skin is cool or warm either. I can wear both gold and silver jewellery, although I lean to silver and I also can't see definitively whether my veins are blue or green - I think blue. I have mid brown hair and eyes, white skin (not milk bottle white ) and freckles. I think if you are not strongly one thing or another it's hard to categorise yourself.

I had a go at the Kettlewell colour quiz but was stumped with some of the questions - I just didn't know. I think I'm a deep winter - those are the colours I'm drawn to instinctively anyway.
So it might be worth you looking through their colour charts and having a go at the quiz. First time I did it, I didn't like the answer so did it again and tweaked my answers where I'd been unsure or torn between two options. See what comes out.

blarm · 31/08/2023 11:32

I used "style me happy" you don't get a fabric colour wallet, just colours on a chart so it is quite hard to match them. You get some recommendations but a lot were from new look and the quality was v poor. I probably should have been more specific about what I like and budget.

LuciferRising · 31/08/2023 11:39

Anyone recommend a particular organisation?

OP posts:
GettingStuffed · 31/08/2023 11:48

There's one problem with season is the lack of a neutral I'm neither a spring or autumn, definitely not a summer or winter but I do have colouring for all.

I'm nearest to autumn but have blue/green eyes more blue than green.

I know which colours suit me best so wear those.

ScarlettSunset · 31/08/2023 11:53

I had mine done with house of colour and it was definitely worth it for the colour analysis.
I have very fair skin, blonde hair and grey eyes. Turns out I'm an autumn which I doubt anyone would have guessed without trying out the swatches on me. And it was totally obvious even to me as they were doing it.

I have embraced it fully and my best colours all look quite 'sludgy' which can be disappointing when looking at them on the hanger, but they don't look sludgy on me when I'm wearing them, they just look perfect for me.

I didn't get on with the style analysis though so can't recommend that bit but they are available separately anyway.

LuciferRising · 31/08/2023 12:04

Regarding House of Colour - did you go to the person's house and do a 1 2 1 session?

OP posts:
Shortpoet · 31/08/2023 12:10

I was disappointed that my favourite purple / maroon dress was too warm after my consult. But I still wore it anyway (until it wore out) just knowing it wasn’t my best choice colour. I appreciated the dress for its cosiness and shape. I just wore it with a cool lipstick to brighten my face (I’m true winter).

But finding my best purples and other colours has been brilliant so Ive brought more of those in over time.

My person said don’t go and throw away all clothes that aren’t your season. Take it slowly, replace over time.
I removed some items immediately that clearly weren't doing any favours and am still gradually replacing things.

You’re not obliged to wear only your season. Most of the clothes I kept were were dark winter, soft summer and the odd dark autumn purples or teal. They are not my very best colours, but much better than anything light summer or spring for example.

Your favourite blues and greens will likely be either your season, or close to it.

Cheaper than replacing a whole wardrobe, I found wearing lipstick and /or earrings in my season works miracles. A few of your season neutrals (or close enough colours from other seasons) and your season lipstick just lifts your face and looks harmonious.

ScarlettSunset · 31/08/2023 12:30

For my house of colour appointment, I did go to the consultants house for it. They had a light and airy room they used so that the colours could be seen correctly in natural daylight.

Goldmember · 31/08/2023 12:39

I did it after my second baby as I was feeling lost with my style. I remember sitting looking a the HOC colour wheel thinking, yeah I'd love all of those except for murky autumn 🍂. Browns and mustards urgh, no thanks. Yep, you can guess it, I'm a warm and deep Autumn. I fully embraced it and once I'd thrown out all my black and grey clothes and accessories there was very little left. I love my autumness now. Its easy to mix and match.

Haha I would have loved to be an autumn but was a true spring and my colours are SO BRIGHT.

But it was a good experience as I could really see the difference when she was draping me. I’m not sure I see it the same in my own clothes at home without the comparison, but I trust the process and now have some key pieces in my best colours but kept all of my old favourites even if I know they’re not the “best” for me.

I have exactly the same issue. Mid-brown hair (is it 'ashy'? I dunno!) Pale skin that tans a bit, blue eyes. Can wear silver or gold. I've tried the Kettlewell questionnaire a couple of times and got different answers. Everytime I look into this I just tie myself up in knots!

alloalloo · 01/09/2023 00:13

I've just had mine done online. I found all the colours I like were ones that suited me, plus some I didn't expect.

I paid £35 I think and had to send four photos and give lots of details.

Not sure about whether I can name the company here, but pm me for details. I would definitely recommend them and she was a really lovely lady as well 😊

alloalloo · 01/09/2023 00:16

I've just seen, other people have names companies so I woo too. I used Style Me Happy and thought it was great value for money and totally agreed with her.

LuciferRising · 01/09/2023 08:01

Well Ketttle colours says I'm a winter but I'm convinced I didn't answer my skin tone right. It contains colours I wear though.

I did this two years ago. Game changer for me. Makes shopping a lot easier and my wardrobe is now way more coordinated.

I am near London and used Red Leopard. Great experience.

Shortpoet · 01/09/2023 08:22

Just be careful with online consultations. Most people guess I am a summer based on hair and eye colour, but at my draping it couldn’t have been clearer how much that doesn’t work for me.

Its about how the colours look against your skin and you can only really see that in person. They look for several indicators e.g. if it makes your jawline sharper or blurry, if it makes you look too yellow or flushed, if it makes brings out dark circles under your eyes etc. and they are using colours that are calibrated

WildFlowerBees · 01/09/2023 08:34

I had mine done online which I don't recommend. I was told I was a soft summer which makes zero sense to me because colours like violet really light me up but soft summer is all about muted colours so I ditched their advice and will get a colour analysis in person.
