I am thinking about getting this done but would be disappointed if I found out the deep blues and greens I wear were the wrong colour - just wondered whether anyone has had this done and either did not agree or was disappointed that the colours that suited you were not the ones you would naturally choose?

Obviously, you can wear any colour.

It's not about the actual colours really, we can all wear most colours but it's more the shades of colours.

I can't wear black or white but I can wear cream or navy. I can wear forest green and khaki but not mint green, mustard yellow not lemon, brick/ orangey red not a pinky red, etc. It has defined my clothing so much that I don't have any black for a funeral. I miss the simplicity of black but I do love the colours in my wardrobe now.

I did this two years ago. Game changer for me. Makes shopping a lot easier and my wardrobe is now way more coordinated.

I am near London and used Red Leopard. Great experience.

Yes they seem really good. Also Annie Castano who was formerly with Red Leopard.

I was wearing a lot of pastels and was quite surprised to be told I was Autumn about twenty years ago, but you quickly adjust. As a very pale person, wearing the best colours really helps. I think it’s less important on some darker skins, as often they don’t look washed out in the first place.

I had online colour analysis with Carol Brailey who uses a 16 season system. I’m a true spring.
Although I might have been wary of online analysis she’s so good at what she does I just knew she wouldn’t be wrong. She’s based in Toronto, a bit of an internet sensation and very quirky.

caramond · 01/09/2023 09:00

I had mine with Style Me Happy as well. I don't think I would have wanted to pay more but for £35 it was a great investment.

I thought I'd be an autumn and I was. It was helpful to know the sub season as well. A lot of my clothes were already the right colours but it's definitely helped me avoid those that aren't, like lilac. The colours near your face matter the most so you can still wear your favourites outside your season for example as skirts, trousers, shoes, bags etc.

LilyLemonade · 01/09/2023 09:02

I did it in person with house of colour and it was (a) really useful and (b) a fun thing to do with a friend.
i love my summer colours but a friend initially hated her sludgy autumn range. But they really suit her and now she never wears anything else!

slithytoveisascientist · 01/09/2023 09:58

I did mine online with Emily Innes, she is lovely and it wasn't too expensive

My sixth form had a consultant come in in the late 90s. It was basic but she took one look at me and said Autumn. Not only do I loathe most autumn shades (browns, rusts, yellows etc), they don't look that great on me.
Again I think I am one of the more engimatic people to analyse - my eyes change colour according to the light (they have green, blue, brown and yellow in them). I have cold toned skin but I can tan.
The only colour I have ever worn that suits me is dark soft deep green. Given I wear a lot of black I wouldn't want to give that up but I would love to get accent colours right.

biscuitcat · 01/09/2023 10:27

I had mine done just before my first child was born, it was so useful, it's really transformed how I shop! I'm a winter, and previously was buying lots of autumn clothes, which I loved but clearly don't do me any favours in comparison to the brighter, stronger winter tones (though I didn't see it before the analysis!). The make up was also helpful, I go much bolder with my lipstick now and it really works.

I had mine done with a House of Colour consultant at her house. There's also lots of accounts on Instagram, I find their stuff interesting to look at to get my eye in and to see the huge difference it can make.

PollyThePixie · 01/09/2023 10:42

I’m very happy with my HOC experience. I’m a true summer. I’m not into the whole thing as much as other people I’ve come across but I do look a whole lot better these days.

LuciferRising · 01/09/2023 11:59

I don't think I look like a winter at all! This is what confuses me. I'll need to get it done.

Arh so I could be a cool winter, or potentially a clear spring. I bet if I get this done I'll come out as an Autumn.

I did it after my second baby as I was feeling lost with my style. I remember sitting looking a the HOC colour wheel thinking, yeah I'd love all of those except for murky autumn 🍂. Browns and mustards urgh, no thanks. Yep, you can guess it, I'm a warm and deep Autumn. I fully embraced it and once I'd thrown out all my black and grey clothes and accessories there was very little left. I love my autumness now. Its easy to mix and match.

Same here! I thought I was probably an autumn but hated all the 'muddy' colours. Turns out I look lovely in them! All the purple and pinks that I wore were ok ish but ultimately there are better colours for me. I loved having my colours done. If you have the spare cash now then I think in the long run you save money, just buying clothes that really suit you and in tones that all go together.

dressedforcomfort · 01/09/2023 13:08

I've never had it done formally but, I used one of those colour analysis app things a while back and came out as a 'soft summer'. It's been quite helpful - made me realise that I absolutely have to stop wearing black. My staple neutrals now are navy, camel and white, my bright colours tend to be blue, green and purple jewel tones. I can wear pale pink, but most other pastels (pale yellow, baby blue, lilac etc) make me look like a corpse.

I've noticed when I wear my 'colours' I get a lot more compliments. It lifts my complexion and makes me look visibly brighter.

toffee1000 · 01/09/2023 14:16

I’m a vibrant autumn according to House of Colour. It’s useful to know, although unfortunately my favourite colours don’t really suit me! There’s very little blue in my palette, which is odd as I’ve often been told I suit blue. It makes sense because it’s a cool shade, I guess.

narniabusiness · 02/09/2023 08:36

I’ve just had mine done with Style me Happy on line too. I came out as a soft summer. I had thought I was a Winter as I wear a lot of black and jewel colours. I think I am probably oblivious to the fact that they overpower my colouring. I own next to nothing in the Soft Summer misty cool mid tones and I think of them as dull fade into the background, don’t notice me colours. I’m going to try them out though.

dressedforcomfort · 02/09/2023 08:48

@narniabusiness soft summers can generally carry off jewel tones if they are green/blue/purple. I where a lot of bold greens, peacock and royal blues and generally they look really good. Also pretty much any shade of pink works for me.

itsahotmess · 02/09/2023 08:55

I had mine done last year and I'm apparently Soft/Warm/Deep. I'm not entirely why're how that translates to Summer/Winter etc.

Soft/Warm/Deep sound very similar to the Autumn colours that house of colour seasons suggest so if you want extra inspiration then looking up autumn might give additional ideas

narniabusiness · 02/09/2023 09:12

Thanks @dressedforcomfort I do love those colours and have a few things in them. I’m going to retire the mustard, yellow and red jumpers (one of each before I get jumped on) as they are getting shabby. I’ve never had anything in pink so I’ll have a look out for that.

itsahotmess · 02/09/2023 09:47

Thanks so much @ScarlettSunset

Potaytoe5 · 05/09/2023 03:54

I had mine done last year by HOC and regret it really! I thought I knew my season already, which consultant confirmed, but then she never said my subseason as she said I don't fit into one!
Plus some of the colours clearly didn't suit me, they made me look so pale.
It was a birthday present from DH,cost over £200 but honestly I could cry.
Just thinking about such waste of money makes me shudder.
I think HOC has the idea to make you look as pale and pink as they can, they analyse everyone as winters when they should be a less contrasting season. I heard Carol Brailey tries to find most harmonious colours, but I don't think online is as good.
It's probably good if you have no clue, but they tell ots of delicate mousy brunettes that neon magenta is their best shade!

JMAngel1 · 05/09/2023 07:42

I’ve self analysed and came out a Spring but then a friend who did the HOC course says I’m an autumn. However I think the Spring colours suit me better - if I wear Autumn colours I look like I’m going to burst into flame as I have very warm (but pale NC20-25) skin and strawberry caramel hair with green amber eyes.
But I’m definitely warm so that excludes Summer/Winter!
My best colours are olive green (not that pale olive/sage that’s in all the shops right now), air force blue, periwinkle, dusty rose, golden cream (can not at all wear white), pale caramel and warm pale grey. I also suit warm magenta/strawberry red but shy away from them. I suit chocolate brown too.
I suit some but not all navy’s - can’t quite figure out which ones until I put them on but some make me look ill but others really work.
I kinda don’t care if I’m not supposed to wear black - for a killer outfit, it can’t be beaten

Voltefarce · 05/09/2023 08:00

I used Colour be Happy/Emily Innes. Whilst I agree with the colour analysis (mainly) the product is quite generic. Don’t expect it to be too personalised. But I suppose that’s ok for the price.

I had the shape analysis as well and many of the shapes were just not suitable for my shape.
