Satin slip dress - dress or nightie?

I have ordered a midi slip dress that I would probably wear with a chunky cardigan or maybe with a fine neck polo and boots/tights.

I am very torn though. They do look exactly like satin nightdresses I own.

The wide strap one you'll get away with. The other one is a nightie

They are both lovely! I think you can get away with either.

In ye olden days we (millennial) often did buy these in the lingerie department or raid our mothers' and grandmothers' wardrobes. More cred than the RTW slip dresses. Have I put you off now? 😁

@clowniform I had a brown slip dress at uni in the 90s! I didn't worry about what I looked like then. I keep meaning to grow up but never quite manage it!!

Agree with pp, and I'm older than she is, yes, we wore slips as dresses. Yes your dress looks like a slip. Tis the point. Enjoy!

@Plansplans What is this 'grow up'? I've also returned to these this year. They look even more nightie-ish with an oversized shirt over the top -- I care not!

Plansplans · 28/08/2023 20:18

You are just right. I am going to choose to not care too. Looking forward to trying it out.

The Warehouse one is lovely and definitely not like a nightie.
