Removed my nail polish, look like I've been on the woodbines

I've had a pinky peach colour on for two weeks and have just removed it to find my nails are yellow!! 😨 I've left nail polish on for ages before this and never had a problem. Can I get rid of the staining? This is just normal nail polish on my own natural nails, no salons involved, I'm not that much of a girly girl.

How on earth do you make your polish last for 2 weeks? I'm lucky if it lasts a day!

Have you tried soaking in a bowl of water and baking soda?

Maybe try a different base coat next time!

A base coat? This is a foreign language to me! I've only recently started painting my nails to be a bit more like a lady, and if it gets chipped I just top it up with a bit more polish. Usually I'm detangling bike chains or fixing stuff so would never go to a salon to get all dolled up, it would be a real waste of money and that's not my thing at all. So have always kept my nails plain and they're actually quite nice as they are. I don't want them yellow! I'll try the baking soda 👍

You definitely need a base coat

AnchorWHAT · 28/08/2023 13:39

Toothpaste, and yes a base coat then top coat after the colour

You need to use a base coat in future to prevent this happening. And don't keep painting more nail varnish over the top, especially when you haven't used base coat, as leaving nail varnish on too long will cause staining.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Definitely getting one of these base coat things. What a faff on trying to be ladylike!

Clear base coat which will also double up as the equally important top coat, is what you need.
