Wedding Flowers - No Lilies?

I would like to find some inspiration / visual for the florist with big white oriental lilies but there is very little on Pintrest and Insta. Are they not a popular choice, what am I missing?

I feel like white lillies are often used as funeral flowers, perhaps?

I love them, and would love them just as much for a wedding as for any other occasion. If you want inspiration, maybe you could have a look at other colours of lily, pink perhaps, and see if anything suitable comes up?

I just googled lily wedding bouquet and a few came up. Even if the pictures are of silk/artificial flowers they would still give your florist and idea of what you want. I love lilies but for some people they are traditionally used as funeral flowers. My Mum hated them in the house for that reason. I would not let others thoughts put you off if that is what you like though as they look beautiful in the photos.

I think lilies are associated with funerals. I also wonder about the whole pollen on the stamen and white dresses thing?!

Lillies tend to stain so they have to be prepared carefully for weddings.

I think a florist could cut the stamen off, you can sort of gently pinch the ends off. Agreed otherwise it would be very nerve wracking. And pinching them off would be something of a shame as the big showy stamen are part of the joy of lilies.

I love lillies I had them displayed on the tables and the room smelt amazing! I only had one calla lily included in my bouquet though as I was nervous about staining too.

I think lillies being a funeral flower is a bit of an outdated point of view.

Lillies = death

SM4713 · 27/08/2023 21:25

No, they are not popular at all for weddings! As others have said, they are associated with death and funerals!

  • The stamens stain, so need careful prep to remove and not something I'd want on any dress, let alone a wedding dress
  • The smell can be pungent, for those that have had a house full of funeral flowers its a smell I will never forget
  • Many people associate them with funerals, so might query your choice

Obviously, your choice though. Speak to a florist or look up funeral bouquets to get an idea of what could be done.

I had masses of lilies at my wedding. The think they’re pretty and smell lovely. We snipped out the stamens.
I like them, so I had them.
