Things to bring back from US?

My partner’s in New York - what should I get him to bring back?

All I can think of is Smashbox primer which I have used for years but has come out of the UK market, and Glossier perfume. My skin’s wildly reactive so I tend to stick to tried and tested skincare and face makeup rather than try new things. He wouldn’t generally buy me clothes without very specific instructions (unless it was something like a scarf).

I’m wondering if there are any OTC medications we don’t get here that I need? What else? He’s actually great at jewellery but I am a costume jewellery person - think hoop earrings from Oliver Bonas and Arket, resin rings, chunky “gold” chains - not a Tiffany type.

Saltair body products (have a look on their website for scent descriptions
Tree hut body scrubs are the most gritty scrub ever and I adore them!

Everything but the bagel seasoning for sure.

You can get that here Smile I usually buy from Amazon

Antibiotic cream
Gummy vitamins (natures bounty) so much cheaper there

goingslightlyinsane · 27/08/2023 15:04

(I use the hair nails and skin ones and I think they work)

We saw the crest strips for $45, seemed a lot to me!
Huge bottles of 100 ibuprofen for $8
And most things in Duane Read or CVS were in locked cabinets!

I always stock up on Frederck Fekkai hair stuff for blondes. Can’t buy it in the UK at all. But only if you’re blonde @Judystilldreamsofhorses I get it usually at the Duane Reed near the New York Tumes offices off 42nd street. Only reason ever to go anywhere near 42nd street!

Otherwise, I enjoy browsing Duane Reed for soap scents I can’t get here - almond particularly and Palmer’s lovely vanilla scented hair wax.

I always buy several tubes of off the shelf antibiotic cream. Excellent for small wounds, infected lumps and bumps etc.

Alas I am a brunette! The bagel seasoning and Smashbox primer have both been secured today. A man on a mission!

Giveuprobot · 27/08/2023 17:12

I always bring back a couple of American Eagle shirts and some Trader Joe's cowboy bark.

FarEast · 27/08/2023 17:17

No alas! About it @Judystilldreamsofhorses nothing wrong with non-blondes Grin

Oh I forgot, if you’re a cystitis sufferer, the over the counter cystitis treatments from high street drug stores in the USA are brilliant. Random but true!

This! Amazing tablets.

Also, Lakeland used to sell a shower door cleaner called 'Clean Shower which was fantastic but nearly a tenner a bottle - it's a US product, available in supermarkets there for about 3 dollars.

Have you tried the Dr Jart colour corrector in the green jar?

RandomMess · 27/08/2023 19:04

@allhellcantstopusnow it isn't that type of product. It's actually more like a foundation with it built in?

Fabulous as I only use it on the areas I need it and less is best with this stuff. Matches my skin tone perfectly.

QuizzlyBears · 27/08/2023 19:06

Secret deodorant & neosporin (antiseptic cream, like magic).

Yes, that's what this does. I've used the IT one and they're very similar.

In terms of savings, I don't think there's much to be had nowadays.

Having said that, I always buy Advil, Tylenol PM, melatonin and Crest strips. And if I am somewhere that sells See's Candies, I snap 'em up. The only chocolate in the world that I like.

RandomMess · 28/08/2023 11:07

@allhellcantstopusnow thanks for the recommendation I'll give it a go but I'm not sure how a one shade of "turns to beige" works for everyone? The IT one comes in several shades? I am ridiculously pale.

At that price it's worth a go though.
