Aggh- I'm a full grown adult going to Reading festival

What on earth do I wear??!
Given that the forecast isn't great 🙄
We are only there for the day (im not insane 🤣) as my son wasn't old enough to go.
I was going to wear trainers & a Uniqlo dress with a combat jacket , but think maybe DM boots might be better in case of mud? My hair will look like crap if it rains - can I get away with a straw trilby type hat or will it melt in the rain? God I'm too old for this 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wear whatever you want, some good waterproofs and some good walking boots that you won't mind being destroyed. You will be literally walking miles. Absolutely nobody over 25 cares what you wear to a festival especially one likely to be a washout.

slinkymalinki47 · 24/08/2023 21:38

Er...thanks. I know people don't really care but as this is S&B I thought I might get some ideas to not look like a hill walker

Honestly…I like to think I am usually quite glam but I’d go to Reading looking like a hill walker if it meant I was warm and dry with comfy feet 🤣. Having been to Boardmasters and felt absolutely ancient, no one is going to look twice at you whether you are in a bikini or a dry robe (not that I’m suggesting you’d like to be eyed up by 18 yr olds!)

MrsJamin · 24/08/2023 21:44

Get a bucket hat!

Wowzel · 24/08/2023 21:45

What day are you going? The forecast here isn't too bad really.

I'd probably wear DMs, over the knee socks, a skirt and some sort of tshirt, with a hoodie tied round my waist, a little rucksack and a load of glitter.

I am not fashionable though!

slinkymalinki47 · 24/08/2023 21:46

Going on Sat only. Yeah hoping it's just showers.

I'm going tomorrow! Forecast looks ok. I'm wearing jeans, crop tshirt and an old pair of trainers, fairly unobtrusive. I don't think it's going to be boot/welly weather. I wouldn't wear a straw trilby personally.

slinkymalinki47 · 24/08/2023 21:47

Hey @Hoolihan will we be the oldest people there?! 🤣

OP posts:
derekthe1adyhamster · 24/08/2023 21:48

My brother in law is there, in case his daughter gets in trouble - not camping with them, nor anywhere near them I imagine 🤣
Boys are apparently in bucket hats and no shirts, girls are in anything deemed unsuitable by parents 🤣
Good luck! I have no advice but have fun

Hoolihan · 24/08/2023 21:49

Yes pretty much 😂 I'm taking my son too. I actually grew up in Reading so we used to go a lot but I suspect it's rather different now! I have been to lots of other festivals though (Glasto/Womad/Wilderness etc) so I know what to expect. Hope you have a great time!

Yes. Mine said they were too old at 18. You'll have a ball Grin

slinkymalinki47 · 24/08/2023 21:51

Maybe I'll borrow one of my son's many bucket hats.

I know but having been to many many festivals over the years comfort over style is 100% the way to go! Have a great time!

Anything fire-retardant 🔥🧯

SnapdragonToadflax · 24/08/2023 22:05

Your most comfortable waterproof footwear. If it does rain the ground anywhere busy will turn to mud. Light top, something warmer round your waist, sunscreen. Straw hat should be fine so long as it's not a monsoon. Honestly, festivals are hard work, especially if you're not 17 and slightly drunk/high at all times!

Prepare to feel very old and invisible 😬 I went from 16-21 (late 90s/early 2000s), when I decided I was too old for it.

slinkymalinki47 · 24/08/2023 22:06

Thanks all you've made me laugh...I'm only going for The Killers - I'll happily look like a mad hill walker if I'm comfy watching Mr Flowers 😊

@SnapdragonToadflax I'll be happy to just survive, have a singsong & get out in one piece....

My daughter went yesterday, lots of crochet and shorts, and a lot of beer. She's 18

snowlady4 · 24/08/2023 22:08

I would wear shorts with leggings or tights underneath (that you can change or remove,) and a rain mac on top. Wellies if you have them or DMs if you've got them well broken in! I would go for a bucket hat, rain hat style or like Paddington Bears hat!
I would try for a coat with big pockets or possibly a bum bag type thing.
You will have a ball! Enjoy!

How lovely in the sunshine! Wonder what all the young lovelies in crochet will do when it rains?

I'm going tomorrow and Sunday so hopefully will miss the worst 😞 f showers

I do have a pair of ankle wellies but opted for waterproof booties to go over my trainers

I did order a waterproof long poncho but it's not arrived so taking a shorter poncho, I was hoping to cover my legs ...well was hoping my short jeans wouldn't get wet

Just wearing a band t-shirt and the jeggings

Sunday I may wear a dress, staying in a hotel Sunday night so can take a change. I'm hoping the ground won't be too wet so wellies it will be

I heard a couple on the radio today who are 60 and going so I won't be th oldest ooh I am packing my yellow frog hat just in case

The rule of A4 size bag is a bummer to get round

Bananasplitlady · 25/08/2023 08:47

I did drop off yesterday, bikini tops seem to be de rigeur for young women. My DD however has taken a few t-shirts and a lot of booze, so clearly a slightly different approach.

JoanThursday · 25/08/2023 08:54

I'm taking my (just turned) 14yo ds to Leeds on Sunday - primarily to see the Killers. I think I'll leave the crochet top at home though ....

HappiDaze · 25/08/2023 09:48

Lol my DD has taken a crochet bra top.

She'll probably just stay in the baggy trackie bottoms, crop top and Hoodie she wore to get there. She's got a pac a Mac and a plastic rain poncho too.

HappiDaze · 25/08/2023 09:49

She took the piss out of the rain ponchos I bought from tiger tiger for £1 but she'll be glad of it now and that she packed it as will her friends as she took spares
