What bottoms/trousers are you going for this coming season?

I am at a loss, have some cords from Toast that make me look like a tied up sack because the waist is so high. I have some simple straight jeans, and some wide leg cords that are nice but I dread them getting wet (flapping in the rain!).

Just don't know what I want to wear really, have been enjoying shorts and wafty linen pants this summer but looks like history now!

I am even pondering skirts with tights at this point. Just so sick of super high waist trews that look odd on me because my torso is small, and everything seems so sack like and bulky in the stores. I used to wear leggings with long jumpers but it feels tired. And jeans just bore me after one or two wears, blah!

What are you opting for this coming season - are you going to wear wide legs and loose fit jeans/pants? Anyone still wearing leggings?
I have not been taking much notice of clothes for a while so am curious what everyone's up to now.

I must admit, @Judystilldreamsofhorses I noticed last winter that I stayed warmer, drier and less hassled when wearing a shorter skirt/tights underneath my winter coat. Much easier to dry off and less flapping about!

Tempted to have a few skirts shortened as I don't get on with midi's...

Cigarette pants
Straight leg and skinny jeans
Faux leather jeans
Skirts and dresses with thick tights

Vivfor60 · 26/08/2023 20:19

What shoes do you wear with the cigarette trousers Zipp? I have some but not sure what to wear with them shoe wise for winter.

Zipps · 27/08/2023 12:27

I wear ankle boots (flat/heeled/chunky/slim)
and leather converse with them.

IndiKid2015 · 27/08/2023 20:41

Thread has inspired me to branch out from the skinnies, bought some straight leg jeans today, I think I like them 😀

LuckOfTheDrawer · 27/08/2023 21:05

I'm also unsure of what to wear now! I feel bored of my usually skinny trousers, and probably fancy something g with a wide leg.

Wellthatwasodd · 27/08/2023 21:10

Wide legs for me, with a high waist. The wider the better. I just got a pair of wide leg thick joggers and love them.

In the winter months I normally wear a pair of sports leggings under whatever trousers I’m wearing for warmth, then if I’m off on a rainy dog walk, I just whip off my trousers and do the walk in my sports leggings and boots. Stops soggy trousers.

I have a tiny commute so if I’m going for an office look I don’t have to worry too much about wet trousers.

DrCoconut · 27/08/2023 21:35

@Devilsmommy I've taken to wearing cargos and DMs for work in winter. It's practical and comfy (and appropriate for what I do).

MsCactus · 27/08/2023 21:55

Black flares for past three years - now on to black plisse wide leg/loose trousers.

I too am struggling with current trouser fashion, absolutely LOVE tight flares though so thank God they're still in fashion 🤞

Jeans always look weird and bulky on me - have a big bum and they always gape

Duechristmas · 28/08/2023 00:09

I'm rocking camo trousers again after 25 years and loving them.

deedeemegadoodoo · 28/08/2023 07:19

This is what I wear…
casual: khaki thick cotton trousers cuffed to make cropped / cropped jeans worn with sandals / trainers if nice, hi tops (Nike, veja, converse) if not. Will be on the look out for some navy trousers similar to the khaki. My veja mid hiking boots are similar to Grenson.

Black faux leather joggers. I want some more of these but many or dark green.

work: wide legged trousers in different colours with chunky loafers or brogues
cropped fitted trouser with chunky loafers / ballet shoe with small heel (sezane style)

I also wear jumpsuits for casual or work. Black tailored crepe for work (I also have one that’s sleeveless I wear thin coloured polo necks under), and for casual thick jersey fabric. I wear with chunky loafers / boots for work and trainers / hi tops for casual.

Dresses. I wear for work and some socialising. Still like my mids but will look for some shorter ones too.

I am 50 (but look younger), 5’7 and size 10 with a bit of a tum.

I bought some wide leg brown cords and a long(ish), straight denim skirt with cargo-style pockets on the side from M&S this weekend. There was a lot of this style of skirt in The Times fashion pages this week, although I’d already bought the skirt by the time I saw this https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/56683951-f6ca-4e1f-b0ea-d548ecd9f544?shareToken=8391386fbeb70a4077a92f43a63a842f

Great article @MurielThrockmorton thanks for sharing

Nannyfannybanny · 28/08/2023 07:58

Trews, now there's a word I haven't heard for donkeys years,my late DM said that, and slacks ,and frocks. I'm 72,, shrunk to 5 ft, look ridiculous in baggy or flared anything, look like a little kid, dressing up in mummy's clothes. Plus I wore them in the 1970s. I also can't afford to change wardrobe, clothes style that often. I decided a few years ago,I'm not going down the miserable black/navy etc winter route. I can see it in the shops now. Also my hair is blond/white,these colours drain me. So it's the skinny jeans M and S jeggins all colours, including winter white. Days spent gardening and dog walking. Occasionally, the dress or long denim skirt will come out with the boots.

Last year I bought a skirt which is just above my ankles, think it’s called midaxi. I wore it loads and loads with warm leggings underneath and slightly cropped length jumpers/sweatshirts and a down coat that is about hip length. Longer length coats looked strange. I found it extremely comfy and more stylish than jeans and have bought two more similar skirts for this winter/early spring. I wore it with trainers and now need to find some boots (will need to be slim fitting ones and higher than the hem of the skirt). Tights and loafers would go to, but I don’t wear loafers. Hadn’t worn skirts in years before this.

CuriousPorg · 28/08/2023 08:06

Problem with flares in the winter is the wicking of water up to your knees. Or wearing flares that are too short and do t meet your show which I think is just the worst look.

User15387500 · 28/08/2023 08:07

I like cords so will be wearing the wide leg Fatface Paige cords I bought in the sale in January in navy and burgundy and I just bought some similar looking dark brown wide leg cords from M&S, probably the same ones that PP bought upthread, I'm quite tall and size 14 and find wide leg cords suit me well

I love a midaxi and have three. A warm one for winter, and two linen ones for summer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2023 08:16

The long brown dresses in that article!!!

I’m still on the hunt for a long - but not too long - black denim skirt. I’ve got a couple of midi length tube skirts that I like wearing in Autumn too - with trainers and bare legs and then with tights and boots.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/08/2023 08:22

I fancy some wide leg chocolate brown cords. I don't have any cords atm and I've fairly recently discovered wide leg trousers (bit late to the party!), which I thought wouldn't suit me. 18yo dd just bought some super slouchy brown cords which look fab on her as she's very slim, but would be too baggy and bulky on me.

LimeCheesecake · 28/08/2023 08:30

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - I too am now looking at the brown dresses!

Also loved a couple of those straight midi skirts, would look great with thinner jumpers and knee high boots for work, then chunky jumpers and boots for weekend.

(I think I would love your style in real life- every S&B thread you post on I find myself nodding and thinking I could look good in what you’ve suggested/that sounds stylish.)

I also think leggings shouldn’t be worn as trousers this year, with notable exception for doing actual exercise. They do work as super thick tights under midi/maxi dresses, but otherwise step away.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2023 08:41

Thanks @LimeCheesecake I’m a bloody mess in real life, most of the time!

You’ve just reminded me that I want a sequin midi skirt for wearing with chunky boots and a biker jacket.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2023 08:43

To clarify, I think most of the brown dresses are awful. A brown velvet dress or skirt could potentially be rather nice though.
