Is Johnny Boden a plonker?

Has anyone else had this postcard from Boden apologising? I did used to buy loads of Boden a few years back but I’ve not found anything I liked recently - and the prices seem so high. Interesting that they seem to be listening…

I think they've missed their moment. I wore some Boden when my kids were tiny and they were dressed in it from head to toe, I would buy stuff in sales, hand it onto friends, it would last for ages.

It was never super stylish for adults but had its place. I can't imagine women in their thirties going for old model Boden now. I'm not interested and I'm in my early fifties now.

My friend's very talented DC who has just graduated with a first class degree in fashion design has just landed a job there, so it sounds like they are being open to new ideas.

Particularly pointed is his admission that they went “too young” with the womenswear. I hope that they unapologetically embrace their midlife audience again, there’s money to be spent on the right stuff!

When I phone them up they can’t work out why I’m not getting anything, but I never do.

Anyway, I guess it’s worked as it’s made me look at their website again without even getting the postcard. Although I have about £200 in Marks & Spencer’s vouchers and a wardrobe full to bursting already, so I’m probably not going to be buying anything other than from M&S for awhile!

I should have been a target audience member 25-30 year's ago. I used to pore over the catalogue and mark things but other than one suit and a wool top never bought anything.

I hadn't looked at Boden in decades. There's nothing on here which is actively horrible but there's nothing I want to buy either. It's all very boring.

Yeh 2012, the year of the London Olympics and Cool Britannia. Someone upthread said Boden is having its Ratner moment. So is the whole country.

I like lots of those dresses so it takes all sorts. If the quality returns then this is all good

If you want a catalogue ask them to send one out in a plain envelope. Or to send two, one to you and one to your local royal mail sorting office staff. I'm still getting clothing catalogues from several places, but they arrive unwrapped now!

Thanks Maria - I don’t think it’s the post though, I get all sorts of other catalogues and don’t get emails from Boden either, so I think it’s at their end. Probably best I’m not tempted to spend on clothes I don’t need!

I really hate puffed sleeves and ruffles, and tent dresses - I suit tailoring and neat styles. I can do a maxi dress but a straighter design. I think Boden need to go back to their core offering - classic styles with a quirky note - so a blazer but with a fun lining and contrast collar lining. I love the cashmere, but the last two seasons of cropped puffed and weird shapes did nothing for me.
