What do I wear to not end up a sweaty/frizzy/frazzled/all of the above mess?? I was all excited about wearing my new maxi dress too

Needs to be relatively practical as will be walking and taking tube, visiting museums, eating ice cream etc etc

It feels like jeans might be too hot (mom jeans are my usual day ti day), all my summer dresses are maxi and will get a soggy bottom , can’t wear sandals, shorts will probably look daft in rain…help!

Also if it counts for anything I will be taking a backpack

I’d go with shorts , I don’t think you’ll look daft ….. don’t wear jeans, you’ll swear to death ! London was sweaty today

UncleBunclesHouse · 23/08/2023 22:20

I probably will swear to death 😂

but yes get you. I thought shorts plus rain would look silly

Shorts or 3/4 length trousers (jeans, chinos, whatever), t-shirt & waterproof. Don’t overthink it!

Missingmyusername · 23/08/2023 22:21

London was absolutely roasting today. I’d go with shorts and a light waterproof jacket.

CrapBucket · 23/08/2023 22:23

I would still wear dress and sandals if that’s what you already planned to wear. London has been v warm the last couple of days.

UncleBunclesHouse · 23/08/2023 22:26

@CrapBucket I’d love to wear my Birkenstocks and new maxi…but wet plus sandals = dirty slippy feet 🤢

it looks like there are going to be a few good downpours

Wet and warm is the hardest weather to dress for! I’d go midi skirt and trainers, with a brolly for lighter rain and a cagoule thing for if it howls down.

43ontherocksporfavor · 24/08/2023 08:28

Trainers with the maxi and a brolly. It’s not dragging on the ground long is it?

43ontherocksporfavor · 24/08/2023 08:29

My weather app(met office) shows warm and sunny all day in London with 10% chance of rain.

JorisBonson · 24/08/2023 08:31

I'm in SE London and it's raining right now. Unless your dress touches the ground just crack on with what you had planned to wear. It's going to get better as the day goes on.

ReviewingTheSituation · 24/08/2023 08:33

Shorts are the most sensible thing to wear in the rain (assuming it's warm enough) - your skin is more waterproof than whatever clothing would have been covering it, so you'll dry off much quicker.

So what did you wear and how was the weather?
