Micellar water

Another Micellar water promising everything and doing nothing!

This time it's Garnier Micellar purifying jelly water.

Why oh why oh why do I buy them? I've bought Micellar water from many different brands and types and they are all absolute crap!

This one is my latest purchase and has barely taken any make up off!

Has anyone had any success with one?

I used to give them to my daughter and step daughters after trying them once but now they say they don't want them as it's a useless product!

It's this one -

Not only do they not remove make-up they hugely irritate the skin around my eyes, I'm never buying one again.

DuploTrain · 22/08/2023 20:35

I like the Simple hydrating one.

I’ve tried others but most seem very perfumed and oily.

YoSof · 22/08/2023 20:36

Do you blow through the cotton pad when you’ve poured it on to make it turn into bubbles?

No real reason for asking I was just shocked when I saw it on TV and think I’ve been using it wrong for years!

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/08/2023 20:37

I've used Bioderma Sensibio (range for sensitive skin)'s micellar water for years (I discovered it when I lived in France) and nothing else compares. Removes all my make-up, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.

(cheaper on Amazon that at Boots)

I find when they are mixed with something else, they sting or irritate. It has to be the water alone. I bought a “milk” one and used it once before binning it. It was an entirely different product.

thebookeatinggirl · 22/08/2023 20:45

I second the Bioderma range. I use the Sebium one for combination skin. Removes all make up, smells nice, leaves skin feeling clean but not dry and no stinging.

ButteryCup · 22/08/2023 20:47

Another vote for bioderma. Great stuff. Removes make up so easily. I always wash my face after using any Micellar water though

ohcrums · 22/08/2023 20:59

Bioderma Sensibio - this one. Don't go for fancy ones with added stuff or two phase blah blah, you just need this one and then rice face after

YukoandHiro · 22/08/2023 20:59

I hate them they're awful!

Oil based cleanser that turns to milk when washed off for me

Eh?

greenacrylicpaint · 22/08/2023 21:01

they are essentially just a kind of soap.
imo bar soap & flannel does the job better, is cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

I wash my face but I want to remove my make up first.

I'm with you OP. I usually buy the Garnier rose micellar water and that's fine, bought their micellar jelly one recently as it was on offer and it's absolutely terrible. Leaves a really greasy feel on my skin, doesn't wash off properly or take my make up off!

MammaTo · 22/08/2023 21:41

Bioderma with the blue lid (forgot the name) is so so good. They do a few different types depending on your skin type.

I use the pink one

Happynow · 22/08/2023 21:45

Another vote for Bioderma especially when they do the twin pack offers. It lasts for ages too.

BMrs · 22/08/2023 21:46

Just avoid and use an oil cleaner then follow up with another cleanser with a face cloth. You won't need anything else.

I use super facialist vit c oil and then cerave hydrating cleanser, then bought a batch of face cloths on Amazon, use twice and wash.
