High lift tint advice from hairdressers needed please

My natural colour is dark blonde and I’ve been getting high lift tint blonde highlights (no bleach) for years from the same hairdresser which gave me a (natural looking) warm sun-kissed mid blonde colour. My hairdresser is now very ill and has given up work.

I found a new salon, asked for my roots to be done to match the rest of my hair and gave them the exact Wella colour used by my previous hairdresser. I thought that I would get the same result from them, but my hair ended up looking dull and only a fraction lighter. I thought maybe it wasn’t left on long enough, so next time (3 months later) I explained I wasn’t happy previously and I asked for it to be brighter. She said she would leave it on for longer this time, but it has come out the same again!

Any ideas as to why I’m not getting the same colour when I gave them the Wella colour shade? Is it to do with the developer that it’s mixed with? I spoke to my old hairdresser and he said that he used to mix the high lift tint with 40% developer, so maybe my new salon was skimping on the toner. What do any hairdressers think? Any advice? Do I need to have bleach to achieve a lighter colour? Many thanks in advance x

It must be some sort of bleach to remove colour from your hair.

Sorry, what I meant to say was that my old hairdresser used 12% (40 vol)

Are you sure they’re using the same Wella colour or are they just saying they are? It might be good to find someone else? Could your original hairdresser recommend someone?
I’m not a hairdresser but something doesn’t sound right.
