MOTB dress - would this work?

NC'd just for this as members of my family know I'm on MN and I don't want my previous posts linked.

I'm step-MOTB, spring wedding. Tight-ish budget for a dress for me, was hoping to pay <£100 but saw this and have fallen in love so could just about stretch to it as it's in the sale. Do you think this hits the mark? I'd have to wear flats with it as I can't do heels due to bad ankles/knees/back.

My usual style is "bag lady in a tornado" and I tend to rely on the boring black trousers and nice top combo for most occasions so this is out of my comfort zone somewhat! I'm 5'8", anything between size 12-16 depending on sizing (average out at a 14) and mostly pear-shaped but with a slight menopause belly developing - good shapewear will be my friend.

I love this dress, and Nancy Mac quality is lovely

indecisivewoman81 · 21/08/2023 14:13

I think this dress is perfect

plehpleh · 21/08/2023 14:16

I think it's beautiful but maybe just make sure the bride and groom are happy with you wearing a "white" dress. I only say this because my aunt recently had a real falling out with her future DIL because she had chosen a "white" (as white as your choice...) dress for their wedding. Maybe your family aren't as touchy about those things as mine is!

It's not white though.🤔

WinterCarlisle · 21/08/2023 14:20

That dress is bloody gorgeous!

BitOutOfPractice · 21/08/2023 14:20

I think it is absolutely gorgeous op. I hope it fits you like a glove and you feel lovely in on the day!

It's literally described as 'ivory' so I think it's a valid concern. It's the only colour you need to avoid at a wedding, there are many other options. The same style dress is available in green and might be a safer choice here.

It's an ivory base but the pattern and pink/teal colours are the parts that really jump out...I wouldn't say it's "bridal"?

Thanks all, feeling quite encouraged now. Do Nancy Mac dresses come up true to size?

That's pretty too, but it's not far off the bridesmaids' dresses colour so not really an option unfortunately.

I would 100% go for the teal version. There are so many colours in the world that I really wouldn’t choose an ivory-based dress for a wedding. Especially as you are in the bridal party.

AuntieDolly · 21/08/2023 14:44

That's beautiful and so much nicer than the traditional dress and jacket combo

Beurla · 21/08/2023 14:46

It's beautiful, especially if you style it with a bit of an 'alternative' vibe.

viques · 21/08/2023 14:46

Thinking of photographs I think the teal dress would look better, especially next to the bride.

Zonder · 21/08/2023 14:46

Beautiful. I prefer the teal but not if it makes you match the bridesmaids!

Could you check with B&G if they're happy with the colour?

viques · 21/08/2023 14:47

Ah just seen about the bridesmaids, shame.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 21/08/2023 14:49

Just check with the bride. Some really mind, some couldn't care less. No matter how much you love the dress, it's not worth wearing it, if it causes upset.

Yes, I can send the bride the link and ask her opinion on the colours.

I like the style but the pattern with the butterflies is a bit twee.

Whataretheodds · 21/08/2023 15:06

It's pretty and I rather like it when the MOB's outfit chimes with the bridesmaids.

SpringIntoChaos · 21/08/2023 15:07

OP I have this in the blue (think it's called Bluebell?) and wore it for my daughter's wedding. It's a beautiful dress. I do love it in ivory, and my own daughter wouldn't have been at all bothered if I'd chosen that colour (because she's not bloody bonkers!!)...but I preferred the blue.

I really don't get the 'shouldn't wear even a smidgeon of white' thing at all...absolutely agree nobody should be turning up wearing a long white satin and lace affair, but a completely ordinary floral frock with a pale base is in no way going to be mistaken for a wedding dress 🤦‍♀️

Notquitegrownup2 · 21/08/2023 15:14

I think it's great and with a nice pink pashmina (the darker the better) will be even less ivory .
.

SiobhanSharpe · 21/08/2023 15:24

Another pair of flatties - much cheaper and even have butterflies in the pattern
Or could you mansge s low wedge heel?

Personally I think it would be fine, my own mum wore ivory and navy to my wedding but we went shopping together and I picked it out. A guest wore a dress similar to the OP's and it didn't bother me. But it does bother some people, and as step-MOTB you'll be in loads of photos etc so if the bride does want to be the only one in white that should be respected IMO. If the bride doesn't care, then it's fine. My point was that it is still something to consider - the bride might actually like the green version if it's similar to her wedding colours.
