Swimming costume

Can anyone recommend me a decent swimming costume, for swimming rather than poolside, etc, that is flattering but won’t mean I have to sell a kidney to afford it!
black, size 14/16

Ideally one that’s flattering, rather than basic Speedo. (However if someone gives a good shout-out to the Speedo, I’ll happily listen)

Looked at the usual M&S, Next, etc but not really feeling it.

Thanks in advance.

I normally buy expensive bra sized swimwear (30FF) but in an emergency I bought a Regatta one last year when on holiday in Scotland and have been quite impressed with the fit. Similar to this:

The chlorine destroys them so glad not to spend £60-70.

Asda George £16. They have a size 14, but will probably have more sizes back in stock soon.

I looked all over earlier this year and eventually bought one in Sainsbury in desperation - I just thought its basic and £16 how bad can it be.
It was great - one of the better costumes I've had.
I'm 16 with 34 F chest and it's really comfortable and looks fine. I can't see it on Tu website. I bought it in store.

Ive got This one from Amazon. I got an L, I’m a 12-14 and a G cup. I’d say L=14, I could do with a little more boob room, but it’s comfy, nothing spills out and it’s got good bum coverage.

I also have This one which is currently on an Amazon deal. Again, good bum coverage, it’s comfy, but the cups are designed for someone a bit smaller chested than me. It’s fine, just gives me a bit of an unnatural shape looking down, but for anyone looking at me I don’t think they’d notice.

Deakin and Blue are expensive, but they are incredibly flattering, comfortable and long lasting. Plus you can swim in them properly without them flapping around or your boobs escaping.

For proper swimming I aways get speedo chlorine resist racer back. Last longer and are more comfortable imo. No one can see you when you're swimming anyway

bingohandjob · 21/08/2023 19:32

Yes, and mine is going strong after three years use - it's really good fabric and has kept its shape and colour really well (it's a two tone navy and turquoise). I'm surprised by the reviews but I guess increasingly we see companies changing the quality of their materials but my Lands End seeing swim suit is one of about 4 or 5 I use on rotation and it's my favourite (I've got M&S, John Lewis). The reviews seem to suggest they really buggered up a batch with their material choice!

I recently splashed out on some Sweaty Betty swimwear. It's super flattering and feels really well made

Very classy but wow! That's so expensive!

thetailorofgloucester · 19/01/2024 14:36

This has been the most comfortable for swimming I have ever had because of the adjustable cross-over straps. Very flattering and confidence boosting. Black swimsuit Amazon Flyrong

I've been buying basic adidas ones from sports direct for about 25 years.

I like the ones with three stripes on each side, they sort of curve round your body and I think are quite flattering. Quite high at the front so no worries about popping out of the top, about £35.

I swim 2/3 x a week so they all get destroyed quite quickly anyway.

savvy7 · 19/01/2024 17:54

For proper swimming hard to beat Arena.

StarlightLady · 20/01/2024 05:06

Take a look at Zoggs or Cupshe. I won’t attempt to link any without knowing your style.

Less choice, but you may be lucky if you are near a John Lewis take a look at their in store sale, but limited size range of sizes. I picked up some bikini bottoms for £5 last week; don’t need the top where l’m going 😀.

If l may sidetrack slightly, l long for the return of the very backless/deep scoop back one piece without cross over or multi straps. They are a rare breed these days.
