Dyson hairdryer

My hairdryer packed up at the weekend. Is the dyson worth it? I have some john lewis vouchers so would only have to spend about £200 cash on it which is only a bit more than say other high end brands which are around £130ish (I had a cloud 9 before). Myself and my two DDs all have long hair and I like the idea that this quicker and causes less heat damage.

If not the dyson what do you think is the best hairdryer out there.

Honestly it's one of the biggest wastes of money I've made. Definitely not quicker, even if it's less damaging.

LashesZ · 21/08/2023 12:06

I've had mine for years and love it. I have really thick hair that takes ages to dry and I'd say the dyson has cut that time in half. It's also quieter than other hairdryers I've had.
I'm not sure it's less damaging but I rate mine for the reasons above.

I think it's great, much more powerful then usual hair dryers I've used, gives a smooth finish and works quickly. My hair is short but DDs is really long and it's so much quicker to dry hers.

I also think it's helped with hair condition - although I'm making efforts with type of shampoo and heat defence product so might not be this alone.

Long, thick, mad wavy hair here. Love it. Favourite thing is that my hair no longer gets sucked into the filter that you get on other hairdryers at the back of the machine because it is located at the bottom in the handle. Was forever having unintended layers after the hair ended up getting sucked in, burnt and chopped off. Oh the smell of burning hair 🤢

love mine - the diffuser is great for curls, and it packs up very small for travelling. I bought a reconditioned one from the Dyson eBay store for about £225 and it's actually changed the way I do my hair.

I’ve had one about 6 years.

would replace it straightaway if it broke.

local long standing hairdressers swear by them

pinkpedi · 21/08/2023 12:29

Absolute waste of money, totally overhyped. I'm a hairdresser, I know what I'm talking about. It also left some weird coating on my hair that stopped as soon as I sold it.

Get yourself a parlux, they are professional dryers, just as powerful, if not more than a Dyson and a third of the price. It will last you a lifetime!

I don’t understand the technology behind it and couldn’t see how it worked differently to my £20 Babyliss one. I did a side by side comparison using a friends dyson. My hair is thick, long & wavy. Friend swears by it though.

BeverlyBrook · 21/08/2023 12:33

I think a GHDs hairdryer is worth it but not Dyson. No way

For me the styling products & treatments are more important than the dryer.

Catinawhirl · 21/08/2023 12:39

Had mine years, got half price, very happy with it at that price, but probably not full price.
The weight distribution is better, and there are no wires in the head bit so you get get it close up without risking a burnt hair etc. But my last hairdresser got one and didn't get on with it.

SuperPug · 21/08/2023 12:44

My hair definitely looks better when I use it. Smoother and in better condition.
However, my first one packed up when it was just over a year old and I was sent a refurbished one, not a new hairdryer after being told that a new one would be sent to me.
GHD Air didn’t last more than a year but I am a heavy user.

Waste of money and leaves my hair feeling strange. Can’t explain it. I have gone back to my old GHD one which is much better
