Autumn/Winter Clothes

Hi ladies,

I’ve posted on here a lot (under this name and others) about struggling to find my style/clothes that suit me since having my daughter 18 months ago. I’m finally taking the plunge and booking a paid for personal stylist (have already tried John Lewis service).

I’m looking at her availability and she has a free day in the first week of September. Given it’s September the shops will be in the full throws of Autumn/Winter clothes won’t they? I just want to make sure that I’m not picking a date where shops will be stuck between seasons.

Oh following, I've really fancied doing one of these. I want to sit and have somebody find stuff for me because I don't seem to be able to do it myself very well!
Have you specified a certain stylist or just done with the any option? I can't pick one that would be best for me so tempted just to go in blind.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 18/08/2023 12:39

Ignore that sorry I thought you said you were going John Lewis.

MetaDaughter · 18/08/2023 12:48

I rarely step into concrete shops these days but it used to be the case that ‘good’ shops had their Autumn stock ready in July, so their clientele could choose their A/W wardrobe before going away for the Summer.

Might be best to ask the stylist whether she’ll have full access to A/W clothes on the date you want?

MetaDaughter · 18/08/2023 12:50

Obviously if you’re in London she might be ordering online for same day delivery. All the big online stores have their Autumn stock.

Herewegooooagain · 18/08/2023 12:52

@ChipshopPickledEgg I did pick the stylist when I did the John Lewis service. But I think it’s quite difficult to pick based on the online profile.

I had an okay experience but sure I could’ve had a better experience with a different stylist! I would definitely go for it if you’re interested. It’s free and no obligation to buy.

Yes I think first week in September there'll be plenty of new season stuff in.

Sagittariusrising · 18/08/2023 16:05

I'm seeing quite a bit of A/W new season stuff on various websites already so I think by September there should be mainly new stuff on stores (along with the dregs of the sale racks) as the summer has been so rubbish for sales they'll be desperate to make up for it - so we'll probably have a lovely Indian summer then!

ChipshopPickledEgg · 20/08/2023 19:17

I'm booked in on Thursday and will report back :-)

Niftythrifter · 20/08/2023 20:37

I’m seeing a lot of A/W stuff in the shops at the moment.

HappiDaze · 20/08/2023 21:14

I bought loads of A/W clothes last year so although I've had a look nothing has jumped out that I need or must have. Give it time Grin

Ooh exciting @ChipshopPickledEgg cant wait to hear how you get on!

I've actually moved my slot to 28th September, figured it's still that really awkward time where there isn't actually a season in the shop. Will report back end of September!!
Let us know how yours goes!! Really intrigued to hear all about the process with a independent personal shopper worts wins and all.

I had my day with the personal stylist today and it was really good! The thing that struck me the most is how I didn’t get hung up on sizes because I’d try what she brought and if it was too big she’d get the smaller one and if it was too small would get the bigger. Something so simple but if that was me shopping on my own I’d get annoyed and would probably give up. Safe to say I spent a lot of money but finally feel like I’ve got clothes that make me feel put together! Just need the weather to cool down now instead of the heat we’re expecting next week haha!

That's really nice to hear. What did you end up getting?

That sounds fabulous! Glad you found it to be a good day

Herewegooooagain · 03/09/2023 12:59

@Dropchain i was starting pretty much from scratch as I wasn’t happy with anything in my wardrobe. I got (by shop):

M&S
1 x mom jeans
1 x wide leg jeans (need to order as didn’t have right leg length for me)
1 x navy tapered ankle grazer trousers

Mango
Khaki trench coat
2 x jumpers (1 black, 1 striped)
1 x cardigan
2 x t-shirts
2 x shirts/blouses
Tan bag and belt

Hobbs - Pink jumper and Pink Blouse
Cos - white t-shirt
Whistles - Oversized collar detail top
Dune - tan loafers
Carvela - navy trainers

The one thing I didn’t buy that’s in the pictures is the Barbour coat. I planned to order it online as found it for £55 cheaper but now I’m freaking out about money so haven’t ordered it yet!

Oh that must feel great to have an instant bunch of outfits you feel happy in & that you can build on. Thanks for sharing your haul.

LunaTheCat · 06/09/2023 09:59

Oh that all looks gorgeous! Well done.
Colours will be brilliant together .. the splash bright pink is beautiful!

MoonshineandMagic · 06/09/2023 10:04

I'm jealous! That looks such a nice put-together selection and I love the colour choices.
