A (nother?) Boden gripe

Countingthegreyhairs · 28/02/2008 12:38

As title says really. Nothing more, nothing less.

Bought a £35 'smart silk jersey shirt' from Boden and thought "ah, this is great, they are listening finally and have made their tops longer (esp. useful for those of us big of nork). Went to wash it today and it is "hand wash only" for heaven's sake.

Whose got time to hand wash nowadays? And the material is a bit thin. I should have read the details and garment description I know but grrrrrrr nonetheless ....grrrr

I've put my handwash "slinky henley" in the wash at 40deg by mistake and it seems fine so I am going to carry on. But then it's not silk....

I totally agree, the mother-types they are aiming at ain't gonna thank them for handwash stuff, you'd think they could make more of an effort to develop nice fabrics which we can throw in the machine! Especially at those prices.

Countingthegreyhairs · 28/02/2008 13:30

mmm, might risk the wool cycle in the machine in that case Cyanarasamba ...'twas the price that got me riled too ...

We had a hand wash cycle on our washing machine. Wool cycle should be fine. And realistically you won't wear it again knowing you have to hand wash it so you may as well chance it

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 11:33

I think you'll find that all genuine Bodenators employ a gloomy Romanian au pair with specific responsibility for handwashing.

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 15:28

... oh and for cooking the labradoodle's filet steak I should imagine Bluestocking

too true VP - I'll just bung it in and hope for the best ...

Oooh are Labradoodles boden-esque? My Mum and step dad have a fabulous one!
Good luck on the washing front!

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 19:20

OOps! Wrong choice of animal obviously!

Actually, I have a bit of a hankering for a labradoodle myself ... one of my husband's colleagues has one and it puts his socks in the laundry basket ...

No, they are stupidly expensive and desirable so prob perfect choice. I want one purely for the lack of hair shedding. Current dear hairy rescue dog would have a fit though so will have to wait until she is no longer with us. Hopefully a good few years yet....but eventually I hope for a discount or payment in installments option as dmum's dog will be a Stud!

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 20:00

But, VP, real poodles don't shed either. My dream dog is a black standard poodle - how I yearn. Although this is probably a bit Bodentastic, especially if you let their hair go a bit dready rather than keeping it all puffy and poodly.

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 20:03

Now have a vision of a mature labradoodle laying back on silk sheets, sipping from a glass of champagne, waggling his "come to bed", er, ears ...

OP posts:
VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 20:19

Ah yes but I don't like the look of the pure breed as much....
Dmum's dog is HUGE! He is like a polar bear. He is a pretty peachy (pink) colour along his spine and so lovely. He lets the girls brush him and put clips and bands in his hair. So patient, just sits there .

seasidemama · 04/03/2008 20:21

sorry to butt in but what on earth is a labradoodle??

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 20:27

Sorry Seaside.

Tis a cross between a labrador and a poodle. They come in small, standard and large apparently. Very intelligent and kind and great with children!

OP posts:
seasidemama · 04/03/2008 20:32

Small, standard and large?? Seriously??

PMSL

Thanks for explaining

VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 20:34

Oooh, I didn't know there was an official sizing thing going on...

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 20:36

I think it must depend on which kind of poodle sires the litter - toy, miniature or standard. You can also have a peke-a-poo, a schnoodle, or a cockerpoo.

seasidemama · 04/03/2008 20:38

Laughing too much. About to wake the baby. Resigns self to not joining the Boden club...

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 20:42

.. not forgetting a cairnoodle ...

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 20:42

PMSL at cockerpoo!

Piffle · 04/03/2008 20:43

I bought a fine knit wool tunic... Dry clean only!!! Is it heck as like. Delicate wash. Dry on a hanger. Press lightly.

seasidemama · 04/03/2008 20:44

Countingthegreyhairs- please, please tell me you made those up??

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 20:45

Or, of course, the ever-popular Jack Roodle.

Piffle · 04/03/2008 20:46

Serves me right for only reading OP
around here you get cockerdoodles and yes shit poos

marmadukescarlet · 04/03/2008 20:53

Am lol at the thought of a toy poodle trying to sire a full sized lab bitch.

I've been at a few coverings (both dog and horse) it generally works better if both are evenly matched in the height dept!

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 20:54

But they can't possibly do it the other way round, Marmalade, a full-size lab sire and a toy poodle bitch?
