A (nother?) Boden gripe

Countingthegreyhairs · 28/02/2008 12:38

As title says really. Nothing more, nothing less.

Bought a £35 'smart silk jersey shirt' from Boden and thought "ah, this is great, they are listening finally and have made their tops longer (esp. useful for those of us big of nork). Went to wash it today and it is "hand wash only" for heaven's sake.

Whose got time to hand wash nowadays? And the material is a bit thin. I should have read the details and garment description I know but grrrrrrr nonetheless ....grrrr

Is a schnoodle a schanzuer and a poodle?! Please say it is. They sound great!

Bluestocking · 04/03/2008 20:57

That's right, Gus. They do sound great, don't they? I've never actually met one but I have met a peke-a-poo and he was the sweetest dog.

marmadukescarlet · 04/03/2008 21:00

I wasn't aware that labradoodles came in S,M,L (min, toy and standard) I've only seen the standard onles.

A full sized lab would cause no end of probs for toy poodle bitch, inc risk of uterine rupture.

Despite my absolute horror and hatred of purpose breeding of crossbreds (and charging £600+ for them) I am quite tempted by one due to the non shedding.

The Boden types round here are obviously all waiting for their choc labs to die orf before they trade them for the new scrummy accessory.

VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 21:12

You can get a Boggle too.

VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 21:14

And a goldendoodle...

VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 21:15

And a Dorgi??!

VanillaPumpkin · 04/03/2008 21:16

They do sort of shed, but in a clump you can just pick up. Bliss!!

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/03/2008 22:38

Sorry - was encarcerated in scullery hand-washing the master's smalls -

  • that's good to know Piffle - thanks!
  • not made up seaside - just google labradoodle and you will find even more wierd and wonderful crosses out there ...
  • although at marmaduke's uterine rupture comment -

yes, as bluestocking confirms - tis a schnauzer & poodle cross but what an earth is a Boggle???

Boston terrier and beagle mix or Boxer and beagle (the mind boggles quite frankly)
Then there is the Puggle. Pug and beagle mix.
Started in America I should add.....

Countingthegreyhairs · 05/03/2008 18:59

Heavens!! Uterine prolapses aside, it might not be total madness. The pure breeds have some dreadful genetic weaknesses (deafness in Dalmatians for example). I suppose it might strengthen the stock ...

Still, imagine someone asking you "what sort of breed of dog is that?" and having to with a straight face "it's a cockerpoo actually"

I have a goldendoodle but am too embarrassed to say so when asked what she is. Always say poodle-retriever cross and leave it up to them to work it out or not..

ska · 06/03/2008 16:21

our labradoodle is gorgeous - an utter softie and he sheds once a year in little clumps so i can indeed pick it up. He's 5 years old and when he's a bit older we shall get another one. he is the most expensive mongrel ever but sooo lovely & soft (and doesnt cause allergic reactions in my kids).

isnt boden getting ridiculously expensive?

ska · 06/03/2008 16:22

lld, we find people come up to us to ask what he is and have now always heard of them

PrincessPeaHead · 06/03/2008 16:52

I have a standard poodle. Actually I have two. Why mess around with a labradoodle (when only 1 in 4 puppies will actually have a poodle-esque non shedding coat)? Get a proper poodle instead! They are lovely, and intelligent and incredibly good and long suffering with children.

PrincessPeaHead · 06/03/2008 16:53

But re the shirt - why not handwash it? After al lthat only means sluicing it around in a sink with a bit of woolite. Much less hassle than "dry clean only" which is my particular pet peeve....

rue · 06/03/2008 16:58

oh
my
word
it's like babyworld but with dogs...

The even have meetups with other owners....!

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/03/2008 18:58

Yes, Ska, ridiculously expensive now the quality of some of the materials has declined - a lot

Your labradoodle sounds lovely - as does your goldendoodle SKA - if I didn't live in bang in the middle of town I'd be sorely tempted ...

Crikey, I didn't know that PrincessPH, only 1 in 4? No wonder they are so expensive. (I guess I'm just lazy btw, about hand-washing I mean. I have a layer of "hand-wash only" clothes dating from the Mezosoic era festering at the bottom of my laundry basket ... can never face it somehow ..!)

PMSL Rue! (If dogs could read and write, I wonder what the hot topics on Dogsnet would be??)

OP posts:
LLD · 06/03/2008 19:28

SKA - yeah, but then I get the look that says "and how much did you spend on that ridiculously overpriced mongrel, you ponce?"

Bit like Boden really.

ska · 06/03/2008 21:07

well i love poodles too (all kinds) but my dh wanted a lab and we compromised once we found out about labradoodles from australia. our overpriced pooch cost less than many pedigrees i fear. anyway we love him and i think all dog owners are loyal to what they have. would love a choc loloured one (ok, mud coloured one)
and boden has lost me now, simply cant afford it any more

marmadukescarlet · 06/03/2008 23:24

I believe the RSPCA do a great line in mongrels ...

cloudberry · 06/03/2008 23:29

Nothing wrong with ridiculously overpriced mongrels.....! Our black labradoddle sheds hair like you wouldn't believe, has a lovely ginger beard and grey legs, not sure that was supposed to happen but all adds to the general charm and a great singing voice to boot.

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/03/2008 08:40

what does he sing cloudberry?
