If you're tall and curvy where do you shop?

I'm 5'9 and a size 14 hour glass. If I wear oversized shirts (so thankful for this trend!) I can hide all the lumps and bumps thanks to my large bust. Even with this I struggle to find clothes that fit and flatter me, nothing seems to be in proportion. Tops are all too short and jeans don't have the length in the seat even if I buy 34"/tall.

If you are tall and curvy what brands do you buy that fit and flatter you? I need a whole new wardrobe - day wear and work wear.

This is something I struggle with, especially dresses which often have the waist in the wrong place or are just far too short on me. Trousers are also a problem. I don't have expensive tastes or much fashion sense so I am sure someone trendier will be along soon. I do find that Next and M&S tall trousers are ideal for me. I also have some maxi dresses from Long Tall Sally.

DeedlessIndeed · 08/08/2023 18:31

I'm in the same boat and it's very annoying!

ASOS tall and Next Tall are my go to for trousers and dresses, although I find ASOS have a longer crotch-waist measurement so for jeans and trousers they actually get up over my hips on high waisted stuff.

M&S tall are okay, although range is limited and never quite long enough for trousers.

It is for this reason I have started to live in midi/midaxi skirts and tucked in T-shirts and blouses.

Puffed · 08/08/2023 18:34

Lucy and yak I find great as a slightly taller and slightly curvier person than you.

M&S for jeans and trousers

Monki for oversized shirts etc

Boden tall also works

chouxfleur · 08/08/2023 18:35

I'm a similar size/height and have recently discovered Arket jeans fit me really well. They are long enough in the leg and are low rise (not stupidly low), which fits me much better than high rise

SirVixofVixHall · 08/08/2023 18:35

Scandinavian brands are cut for a taller body. Eg Stine Goya. I am an inch shorter, busty and find they work well. If you are curvy with a rounded bottom and a fuller cup size, then that takes up some of the body length, both in tops and the bodice of dresses, but also in trousers.
Try different brands when you get the chance, as it becomes trial and error which brands will fit, but if you start with brands that cut for a taller shape it gives you a little bit more room to play with. So Danish brands, Dutch brands etc. Check the height of models when shopping online, lots of retailers tell you this now. Some brands eg Seasalt, offer a tall option that isn’t just longer at the hem, as so many “long” options are, but actually cut for a taller body frame.
I find Reiss fits me well in the rise of trousers, but I haven’t bought a dress yet. Tailoring is more flattering than very loose things that just hang off my bust.

cherryassam · 08/08/2023 18:42

ASOS Tall / Curve is my go to for basics.

Abercrombie and Fitch do an extra long length which is fab, their jeans are great especially the Curve Love range.

Karen Millen Tall is good for smart workwear and tailoring

Anxioys · 08/08/2023 18:43

Marks and Spencer's and Massimo Dutti are good.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/08/2023 18:52

I'm 5'8" and size 16. Disproportionately long body. Finding trousers with a high enough rise, and shirts which are long enough is my life's work. "high waisted" "oversize" and "tunic" are my watchwords.

I also have size 9 feet for my sins.

BestIsWest · 08/08/2023 19:19

Fatface tall are good for jeans.

I have a long body and the waist on dresses is usually far too high up. I tend towards buying a longer length in a waist-less dress and adding my own belt.

Howtosolveit · 08/08/2023 19:31

I am 5' 11" and also an hourglass 14, though it sounds as though you have a long body whereas more of my height is in my legs and so tops have never been an issue, though proportions have (waist in the wrong place, etc.). Lots of good tips here already, so I will try to be additive:

  1. As an hourglass, lycra is your friend. I would avoid the baggy tops and go for stretchy fabrics that don't need to have exactly the right proportions as they will fit to your curves.

  2. Find a good tailor. Absolute game changer. Buy things one size bigger and have them taken in to fit your proportions. Find items with a decent cuff / hem and get them lengthened. Doing this made so many things wearable for me that would otherwise have gone to the charity shop.

6ft and 14/16. M& S long jeans or Next. Tall for tops as i have long body and long arms. Oasis. DP

Blossomandbee · 08/08/2023 19:52

Next and New Look Tall ranges are good.
I haven't tried Long Tall Sally but they might be an option, I see lots on Vinted.
Joules jumpers and coats have nice long arms. Some H&m stuff like oversized shirts are good too.

MattDamon · 09/08/2023 09:33

Expensive but Free People have tons of oversized shirts. Gap do some t-shirts in tall sizes. H&M and ASOS sometimes do oversized/boyfriend shirts. M&S is my go-to for trousers.

Rivermedway · 09/08/2023 09:39

Can I ask, do you know what style of clothing you should be buying? I had a style analysis done a few years ago,and it gave me suggested styles of what suits me. It’s revolutionised what I buy as I avoid the styles that didn’t suit me, and aim for those that do. I can usually find something in most shops now, whether Sainsbury, Marks or designer.

Having a colour analysis done also helped as I know which colours suit my complexion.

Tallgirlsrock · 27/08/2023 20:24

I love Long Tall Sally. They were taken over by the same company who owns Yours.
I'm 6ft and size 20. I have managed to buy leggings from Yours that were long enough, but LTS are my go to for jeans and trousers... I'm a 34" inside leg for trousers but prefer my jeans a bit longer so of buy a 36" inside leg jeans. And, LTS are not as expensive as they used to be and they have really good sales.
Their dresses and skirts are great too...I actually had to send a skirt back for being too long a couple of months ago...Now That has a novelty 😂

swivel34 · 27/08/2023 20:28

Asos Tall.
Long tall sally.
H&m sometimes have some good things!

5'10 and size 14, but H cup boobs - shopping is a huge struggle!!

VienneseStrudel · 27/08/2023 20:50

I'm a similar size and shape to you, OP. I live in jeans from M&S (their Magic shaping ones in skinny fit especially - NB the dark denim ones are snugger than the mid - light colours, so try sizing up). Their waists tend to be nipped in more than standard jeans. And their long length is nice and long now (I'm a 34" inside leg). I've a few trousers from m&s too but I generally wear them only for work.

In terms of tops... like you, oversized shirts, otherwise i go to Next tall, and some Boden tops are nice and long (their long sleeved Breton tops are a good length). Boden skirts are good, their maxis and midis tend to be a great length, especially if they have them in long length. Swimsuits are good too but can be hit and miss for larger boobs.
I've randomly found a couple of tops online to be good for length - small shop called zero ducks club - logo stuff, song lyrics etc. Hoodies are lovely and long and the t shirts are a nice length too.
Oh and one final one - leggings from Llama Leisure or Rainbows and Sprinkles. Nice and long, and they come up really high.
Oh, and of course, a few good bras that fit you well and hold everything up where it needs to be! Good luck in your quest!

Bory · 27/08/2023 23:12

Bombshell hq do fabulous clothes for women with curves I am 175 cm and a size 12 on bottom and 14 on top. The pieces are expensive but classic and made and designed in Britain

toomanyleggings · 27/08/2023 23:23

I’m 5ft 10 and a 12/14 with big boobs ( quite straight otherwise though). All my jeans are next tall. I wear their mom jeans a lot. I just wear t shirts with them mainly but if I’m going out I will get a nice blouse from lipsy through next. I hate shopping so I use next directory a lot so I can try on at home. All my swimsuits are figleaves or pour moi and I size up for length.

Mindgone · 28/08/2023 09:43

Place marking, some great tips here, thank you 😊

RavingStone · 28/08/2023 15:17

I've just discovered snag pants which have an actually high rise. I'm similar size and shape to OP and can never find trousers or underwear that come up high enough due to high up waist. I know it's just underwear but wearing underwear that actually fits my shape makes whatever I'm wearing look better.
