John Lewis Kin no more

It looks like John Lewis have discontinued their Kin range for women. Such a shame - Kin was one of the few clothing ranges left where the fabrics, quality and finish was decent and the price was definitely worth it, even if the styling was a bit Hush-ish.

It seems a strange choice to cut this range as it was extremely popular. I guess John Lewis are really struggling...

I meant style was Toast-ish, not Hush-ish!

Oh that is annoying! I really liked some of their more architectural shaped clothes. And the fact it was usually good colours without pattern

PurpleWhirple · 08/08/2023 15:14

Oh that's a shame, I really liked some of that range

midsomermurderess · 08/08/2023 15:15

That’s a pity. I have a few things from Kin that I wear a lot and they did have quite a lot of shirts and dresses in cotton.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/08/2023 15:16

Dammit. Their staples are really good. Not a ditsy print in sight.

BHRK · 08/08/2023 15:19

I thought it was all awful! Why wouldn’t they discontinue if it was so popular?

champagnelaughter · 08/08/2023 15:26

Bedroom drapes circa 1980; prints and style. No great loss IMO.

Comefromaway · 08/08/2023 15:33

I thought it fitted really oddly, nothing seemed to hang right.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 08/08/2023 15:35

Ahh that's a shame. I had a few basics but at 5ft 4 a lot of their stuff swamped me. Some very similar pieces to Cos particularly in the earlier days.
I used to like And/Or but it seems to have gone a bit bland and they don't have many pieces anymore.

midsomermurderess · 08/08/2023 15:39

I think their clothes would swamp you if you're not that tall. I am tall and I'd say they worked for me. The oversizing was a bit over the top sometimes.

Comefromaway · 08/08/2023 15:46

That explains it then. I'm 5 ft 3 and a half

SwedishEdith · 08/08/2023 15:49

I liked the idea of it and wanted to like it but none of it ever looked right on me.

I'm relating to this post! I really wanted to look great in this range, but could never quite pull it off!

HeyMicky · 08/08/2023 15:56

Oh bum. My favourite trousers are from kin and I have a few great shirts from them as well. I really liked their stuff

faustina · 08/08/2023 16:47

Some of it was really excellent, and you could always count on that brand to have pockets in their dresses. Lately the choices got a bit weird - all those strange prints - but I will miss it very much all the same. I bought a couple of their lovely bretons in the sale a few weeks ago - still some left if anyone fancies a proper autumn weight one. I would recommend!

SgtBilko · 08/08/2023 16:51

That’s a shame as I’ve got some good basics from that range. The prints did get a bit over the top though.

lindyloo57 · 08/08/2023 17:56

That's why there are so many bargains, I'm 5ft2 size 10/12 so never saw anything that would suit me before, but in the sale brought a rain mac £39 half price but I had to buy a size 6 as it was so oversized, a pair of leather ankle boots half price .

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/08/2023 18:07

Oh.
That's me naked from now on then!

I liked their stuff and could afford it!

donkra · 08/08/2023 18:15

JL staff told me that they're going to continue making the pieces, but they'll be folded into the main JL line instead of having a separate brand. Make of that what you will.

I will definitely miss it. I have some great pieces from Kin including my favourite white shirt and t-shirt.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 08/08/2023 18:30

Ah that’s a shame. Their sizing is bonkers! I’m wearing one of their shirts today, it’s a 12 and absolutely massive on me. I am definitely not a 12. That’s not the only reason I like this shirt though.

I like the COS aesthetic, but somehow their dresses never really worked for me, perhaps you need to be very slim.

champagnelaughter · 08/08/2023 18:33

The sizing is massive. I'm above average height and when I tried a top on I looked like an overloaded coat stand.

CocteauTwin · 08/08/2023 18:56

I liked a lot of Kin things although the sizing was indeed all over the place, and the style definitely wasn't for everyone. I suppose it was a good confidence boost to have to size down most of the time. But their pricing was a bit strange, with exceptionally good quality items costing sometimes less than some awful viscose number (though that worked for me). I will miss it, and am so glad I bought a couple of really beautiful Kin dresses in the past few months.

WeAreBorg · 08/08/2023 19:36

That’s a shame I liked it, my current favourite shoes are Kin and they attract daily compliments. Unlike the rest of my outfits 😂

Clymene · 08/08/2023 20:06

That's a shame , I have a few things from there and really like them

donkra · 08/08/2023 20:07

I wore Kin barrel leg trousers to work today. I have several pairs including some indigo barrel leg jeans I love.
