Sticky Patent Leather

Has anyone else had a problem with patent leather shoes becoming sticky to the touch? I've had a quick Google and I'm still non the wiser as to whether it can be resolved by cleaning them (and if so with what) or whether its terminal because the coating has broken down. They were rather expensive ballet pumps which had hardly been worn because they rub my feet and I thought I would try to sell them, only to find them all sticky.

It's maybe melted a little bit and re set iyswim try a bit of saddle soap might help.

Are they definitely Patent Leather, or a Patent finish, as Patent Leather is rare, even in expensive brands? Plastics / plastic coatings on leather often disintegrate and become sticky and I have thrown away bags / shoes that I've had for years and have started to fail material wise and although not designer, were from the much higher end of the high street. I have also had two faux leather / pleather or plastic jackets that did the same, so am no longer in the market for faux materials until I know they can stand the test of time. Likely the material has failed.

Thanks for your reply. They are Prada so although I can’t be sure, I would hope they are the real thing. I have other patent shoes of similar age which are still fine so I don’t think it’s a storage issue or them getting too hot for example.

Google 'problems with Prada' and you will find that others have had issues with the products, including sticky leather.
