How to check your child's haircut at the hairdresser's without coming across rude

How do parents here check their child's haircut at the end of a cut without feeling like you're being fussy/rude? I like to give a quick look over and we have recently got a new hairdresser, but at the end she asks child how is haircut and then gown is whipped off before I have an opportunity to look at it. I hate this as now child is out of seat!! How do I politely say Hang On! I would like to check it over please?

Why would you check it over? What are you looking for? Do you ask the dentist if you can check their teeth after they've seen them? Or the doctor?

Because the amount of times the back has been cut wonky, the sides different, too much length left in one place. I am paying for the service and want to make sure my child likes it and a good job done.

As they’re nearing the end, I say “oh look at mummy, show me how handsome you are. Don’t move for a second” when he’s still sat down. Then I have a look and say “oh, could you please take a bit more off the top etc.”. I’ve never had an issue and the few we’ve been to who have cut my ds’ hair always tend to ask the parents to have a quick look and make sure they’re happy. How old is your dc?

If that’s the case, then you definitely need a new hair dresser.

She is a new hairdresser and so far doing a good job, but once outside it really needed a bit more length off the back, but too late, gown was off!

I don’t check. I take him, he asks for what he wants, the barber cuts it, I pay and say thank you and leave!
If i’m being honest I’m just grateful that ds can see again once’s we’ve left the barbers, and his barber is fantastic. I can’t say I’ve ever felt included to check over his work. And I actually wouldn’t care if it was a bit dodgy, it grows 😂

I would say at the beginning, "at the end before you take child out of chair, could I just check they are happy with it first? They can get a bit fussy about it when we leave sometimes". Blame the kid 😂

Needmorelego · 06/08/2023 22:29

Surely you check before you pay and if you think it needs more off just say something. So what if he is out the chair and the gown off?
He can sit back down and put the gown back on.

I put my trust in a barber a few months back and she totally missed cutting one side of his head! I didn't notice it as only viewed one side from where I was sitting. Was so angry that we'd driven 25 miles home and didn't notice at the time.
