How does Reiss survive?

I admit, as a style it's very Italian-glam and not my cup of tea, which no doubt influences my view. But to my eye, the clothes are really overpriced for the quality of the material, although the cuts are usually decent. Anyone want to defend the brand?

I used to love Reiss. The quality is amazing and classic pieces last for years but recently it's not as good and I won't be paying almost £200 for a dress anymore.

PatTesting · 05/08/2023 17:55

I used to love Reiss, it was my go to for workwear. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t fit in their clothes any longer.

They have the worst vanity sizing now, so I doubt you can’t find a size you can fit in. I’m UK size 8 and fit comfortably into Reiss size 4. Worth taking a look if you like the style.

Beachlovingirl · 05/08/2023 18:01

Reiss is my go to place for something to wear for a wedding or an event but it’s too over the top for work or just to wear to do normal stuff. Their shoes used to be really nice and also really comfortable - for heels.

I think Ted Baker clothes have a certain look about them too I can always tell their coats with lots of golden metal additions

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/08/2023 18:02

I used to dislike Reiss, their pieces were a bit frumpy and way too Kate Middleton for me, lol. I have had a change of heart recently having bought a couple of dresses in a John Lewis sale and was pleasantly surprised. Great cut and quality for the (sale) price.

Niftythrifter · 05/08/2023 18:24

I recently popped in store for a look but the style isn’t for me and is pretty expensive for what it is.

Esla1986 · 05/08/2023 18:26

Reiss used to be my go-to brand. But over the last 18 months I maybe by 2-3 items a year from there.

I wouldn't describe Reiss as frumpy at all (some of the stuff even looks a little tarty), but it is expensive for more-often-than-not synthetic material. They do tend to be cut well though, and I would also be complimented when wearing their dress/evening wear.

SecretVictoria · 05/08/2023 18:29

No idea. Went in with a friend a few years ago. She tried a dress that looked nice. Asked me and other friend what we thought; I told her it was nice but no way would I pay over £100 for polyester. Sales assistant gave me daggers but they’ve got a cheek charging that for crap material.

TropicalTrama · 05/08/2023 18:36

It used to be my work go-to but since covid everything is a lot less formal and I haven’t bought anything from there since

GraysPapaya · 05/08/2023 18:38

I really like Reiss! It seems to fit me really well and compliments my body well (short, size 6, no boobs!) I’d shop there all the time If I could afford it.

ttcat37 · 05/08/2023 19:02

If I ever want to get looked up and down and sneered at by a shop assistant, I know that Reiss won’t disappoint.
As much as their occasion dresses are nice, I just can’t face buying something from a shop where their employees have always been so stuck up!

greenteaandmarshmallows · 05/08/2023 19:38

I found a lovely dress. Ordered it. The material was shockingly awful so returned it.

ZaraBlue · 05/08/2023 19:48

I was just in Reiss today thinking the same thing! The cuts and styles are quite nice, mix of trendy and classic... but oh my gosh the fabric is terrible. Feels dirt cheap. Should be Zara prices.

OsirisservesAnubis · 05/08/2023 19:57

I love Reiss style but have found the quality awful for the price. More the quality I'd expect of a much cheaper shop. Shame as the stuff is lovely.

TarquinOliverNimrod · 05/08/2023 19:59

I used to love Reiss and it was my main place to shop but not any more, the clothes are really plain and boring and not in an understated, chic way, just a plain and boring way. I don’t mind the prices if the clothes are wonderful but they just aren’t worth the expense any more.

PlumPeony · 05/08/2023 19:59

I'd buy from Reiss but every time I check anything, it's polyester.. so it's a no from me. Menswear is better I think

BHRK · 05/08/2023 20:03

I love Reiss and find all their clothes last with careful washing. No complaints at all.. though it’s pricey! I buy a lot from there

Jellycats4life · 05/08/2023 20:03

I think they trade on their reputation but the prices they charge for polyester is shocking and not sustainable.

FoodFann · 05/08/2023 20:04

Sorry OP. I think they’re the nicest clothes on the high street. I love everything they make!

Epli · 05/08/2023 20:29

I buy Reiss on vinted only. No way I'm paying £150 for a blouse from polyester.

Griffalo123 · 05/08/2023 20:33

I buy the odd item when on sale. Some of the jumpers are my go to items for work. I’m intrigued to know whether those who used to shop at Reiss have a new favourite brand?

Esla1986 · 05/08/2023 20:40

Have you tried Sezane? That's where is get the majority of my day-to-day items from now. Great quality and generally natural materials.

donkra · 05/08/2023 20:42

I may also just be annoyed because it turns out that John Lewis is folding Kin (which is one of my favourite brands) into their main JL line. I'm glad they're not discontinuing it altogether, but fuck I'm not going to enjoy picking out the interesting stuff from the boring basics now.

I actually have one item from Reiss; a camel coat. It's nice and cleanly cut, but it cost me a fucking fortune and it doesn't have pockets. If they worked in real silk and wool, I would consider them. But why would I buy polyester at silk prices?

I have some Reiss stuff off Vinted which makes its good value for money 😁

SuperPug · 05/08/2023 20:55

The fabric is awful. Quite like the blazers but too expensive for the brand/fabric.
Very much like Sezane as well. It gets a bit of a bad rep on here but M&S Autograph has occasionally been great too.
