Is this appropriate for a Christening?

I always struggle with what to wear for a christening. I find the balance between smart and dressy tricky, especially with the weather like it is.

I just googled ‘christening outfit’ and this came up. I really love it, it’s in my size and it’s in the sale.

Reservations are, the colour. Is it the same faux pas to where cream/ white as it would be for a wedding?

Is it too dressy? Thinking I would need to wear with heels and I might feel a bit ott.

For context christening is in catholic church and then a celebration afterwards.

Good to get some opinions!

It's fine. There really isn't a dress code for Christenings. At least not one imposed by clergy or congregations. If your friends have their own ideas of a dress code you will know better than anyone on the Internet that they do. And whether their opinion is worth caring about.

I think it’s gorgeous! (I am over the “stick a frill on the bottom” trend though!) and thibk It’s perfect for a christening.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/08/2023 12:39

It's lovely, you'll look fabulous

It’s pretty. The only dress code I can think of in Catholic or conservative churches is covering shoulders / cleavage and no short skirts, so in that way it more than complies. (I’ve also been to christenings in more modern / informal churches where all sorts of outfits were worn from jeans and T-shirts to clubbing style dresses!)

Seems good to me

mistermagpie · 05/08/2023 22:17

It's lovely, where is it from?

HarrietJet · 05/08/2023 22:20

Absolutely fine.

xyz111 · 05/08/2023 22:52

Really nice. I'd like to know where it's from too please! 😜

It is a lovely dress and one that you will be able to wear again and again for different things. I don't think it is too dressy and there is no issue with wearing white or similar like there is for a wedding.

TizerorFizz · 05/08/2023 23:22

Perfect I think. Just add some discrete gold jewellery and pretty shoes. Closed toe in case it rains.

StarlightLady · 06/08/2023 06:53

Go for it! Providing you will enjoy wearing it on other occasions afterwards.

fuckmyuteruslining · 06/08/2023 10:02

Very pretty! Go for it

amidsummernightsdream · 06/08/2023 10:42

Thanks very much everyone. I do love it and it’s a very ‘me’ dress
I do think it will be dressier than what friends will wear but I suppose that’s where you just have to go with what you like yourself and not worry too much about that.

and for those asking it’s from Mint Velvet.
I haven’t ordered from them before, so will see what the quality and fit are like when it arrives.
