One nail splitting vertically

Hi, for the last 2 years one of my thumb nails splits down the centre, always in the same place. I can't grow the nail past the end of my thumb it just splits and catches in stuff constantly. Any ideas on how to stop it?

I had a thumb nail like that for years. Tried a few things, not all at once! A gel nail, made it worse, very weak and brittle. Nail glue ditto. Superglue in desperation didn't work either.
The only thing what did work and it has stayed grown out is keeping the nail filed very short so it can't catch on anything. As soon as grows a bit file down eventually It became a normal nail. It still is normal but I keep it short don't want to happen again it's so annoying.

I have the same - it’s been a couple of years and I was told I’ve damaged the nail bed so it will be like this permanently. I generally keep my nails very short anyway but when I do let them grow longer, I get a proper manicure and they use something they just call ‘nail repair’ to do the base coat on my thumb and it’s quite thick and strong.

Just a thought...How are your iron levels? When my iron was low (ferritin in the 30's) I had bad nails & a split on my thumbnail like this. Since having an iron infusion it has gone. However, besides that I had a heart condition diagnosed and corrected so the improvement to my circulation may also have helped.
