I've seen some beautiful looks on youtube etc where the hair is curled with straighteners, but I just can't do it.
I have a lot of fairly thick, curly/frizzy hair, a bit witch-like if left to its own devices. When I use straighteners, I can, with a fair bit of time, straighten it so that it's fairly smooth, though the ends never look great. But it doesn't really look like me. I need a bit of curl in there, but I am hoping for smooth curls not frizz.
I bought the new cloud 9 straightener that is supposed to be good for curls, and I've watched various tutorials, but it just doesn't seem to do it on my hair. They pull it through and it comes out as ringlets. I pull it through, and it comes out straight, with maybe a bit of volume, and ratty looking uncurled ends.
I put anti-frizz serum on and then just air dry it overnight as I don't have time to blow-dry it. I just wanted to be able to straighten/curl the ends in the morning. Do I need more products on top of the serum before curling? On the tutorials they put hairspray on afterwards to set the curls, but I don't get any curls anyway. It just goes from naturally frizz-curly to straight and unable to hold any curls.
(I have spent years trying to get it to look nice with the natural curls, and don't have much luck with that either!!).
Is it just more practice needed or does some people's hair just not curl once it's been straightened? The tutorials say to turn the iron 90 or 180 degree and pull it through, and it should curl a bit like when you pull ribbon along an edge, but I just get a limp not quite straight, but no curls, hank of hair that just hangs there with all the other hanks and their ratty ends.
Can't decide whether to return the straighteners, or keep them for straight days and use the curl secret on other days, which sometimes curls it and sometimes not. I thought these would be a lot easier, as it's just the ends that I wanted to curl smoothly and nicely.
