Curls won’t hold

I’ve got mid back length thick, shiny straight-ish red hair. I really like the look of it when I curl it with straighteners, but the curls drop out within half an hour unless i use vats of hairspray, which a) stinks and b) makes it sticky.

Can anyone recommend a curl holding product please??

@Shutuptrevor What are you using to make the curl last ie before you spray your hair in place? If you are not using a styling/curling product then it might help to use that.

I use two products, firstly a texturising spray that makes the hair feel thicker and makes the hair more likely to hold, L'Oréal Tecni Art Panache Hair Spray.

I also use L'Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Pli Heat Activated Styling Spray both of which I buy on Amazon. They are both used by professional hair stylists who create those mad vertical hair styles in competitions. After I use those I spray it with hairspray to help it hold too but not loads. Have a look on Youtube for people using those types of products.

Following for tips and recommendations on products! I have the same problem!

What are you curling your hair with? I don’t use any styling products as I think it weighs my hair down and I don’t like the feel of them but my curls stay in my hair until my next wash. I use cloud nine straightners. However if I use anything else and particularly curling tongs or a wand etc the curls only last a few hours which makes me wonder if it’s the tool you’re using?

I have the same type of hair and I use mousse in damp before blow drying. Then you need to pin your curls while they are hot and allow them to cool and set before you let them down, finish with hairspray. This make them hold all day.

Thank you for those suggestions! I picked up some curl mousse and hairpins yesterday, I’ll try that and then also look out for those specific products named as well.

I’m using straighteners to curl it but that’s reminded me I’ve got some curlers somewhere that actually seemed to last longer so i might look those out too.

Use Heat protectant and make sure your hair is 100% dry (often curls stay better on 2nd day hair), use Curlers or a wand with not too big sections and hold each curl in your hand as you let it go (as in don’t let it fall) then clip it up with clips similar to the ones linked and leave them in as long as you’re able to.

I have similar hair to you OP, silky/fine and used to have the same issue, but my curls will now last until I wash my hair - Thats without using any Hairspray/hold product.
