Summer holiday packing

Indulge me!

Just starting to pack for a week’s sun holiday. It’s been so long since we last had this type of holiday and I’ve forgotten how much I’m likely to need. I’m really good at travelling very light for city breaks and I’m not sure if my current list is too long or too short!

2 x swimwear- a tankini and a bikinI
A sarong for poolside
2 loose cotton shirts for over swimwear or over shorts and a vest
1 short sleeved loose cotton boho-esque top (Could potentially pack more of these)
3 pairs of shorts
3 vest tops
2 cotton sleeveless dresses, with 2 linen shirts to wear over them
2 printed, loose, light, sleeved midi dresses
1 ‘nice’ dress for a couple of evenings: the other dresses will do for day or evening
sandals and flip flops (will travel in trainers)
sunhat and sunglasses

I don’t like the tops of my arms, hence the range of shirts.

Will probably travel in vest, loose printed trousers and a cropped hoodie plus trainers.

Too much? Not enough? Practically perfect in every way? 🤪

How much time are you going to spend in a swimming costume? I'm normally in mine + a cover up for most of the day so, to me, you're list looks a bit heavy on 'normal clothes'.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2023 10:19

Probably just a couple of hours a day, but not at all on at least two days when we’re going on trips. We prefer sightseeing/people watching in cafes to sunbathing/swimming.

I could definitely lose some of the normal though!

In that case, I think it looks pretty reasonable. Maybe one less dress? But I wouldn't worry too much. How many pairs of shoes are you taking?

StarlightLady · 03/08/2023 11:52

OP, do you need to take something waterproof? Few places are guaranteed rain free.

Personally I would cut down on the shorts and take skirts but that is down to personal style.

Also avoid linnen or anything that is going to look screwed up after packing.

If you’re going to somewhere hot, you may need more vests? I’m getting through so many basic vests and underwear!

Slightly off topic OP but if this is hold luggage, having returned from Italy at the weekend and my case not turning up on Birmingham airport luggage carousel I'd advise you -

  • if possible take photos of what you have in each case,

  • write your name and contact number on a piece of a4 paper and place this on top of your case so as soon as it's open it's visible,

  • clear and well attached luggage tags, electric tags if you have them, and

  • take a photo of your packed and sealed case

Just in case Grin

Or go carry on if you can. It's better to have fewer things that are with you, than more that is lost.

Unfortunately despite packing as minimally as we could for 11 nights we couldn't avoid hold luggage. But for a shorter duration, definitely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2023 12:32

Am using the hold, since it’s included. Usually do carry on.

Will replace a pair of shorts with a skirt.

Good advice re the luggage. Will put address inside and take pics.

Thanks!

More vests and underwear sorted!

Will stick a waterproof cagoule thing in my bag, as it will almost certainly be raining here when we get back even if we escape rain whilst away.

The linen shirts have travelled okay in a rucksack before so I think they’ll be okay. I’m assuming the hotel will have an iron if needed anyway.
