How do you maintain balayage

I had balayage done yesterday and I like how it's turned out. I just wondered how to maintain it myself.

Do I use a purple shampoo - if so, which one and how often? I've heard purple shampoos can be quite drying. Also, what's the difference between purple shampoo and blue shampoo? Do I also use a normal shampoo for regular use?

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks' time, where it's going to be hot. What can I do to protect my hair? Sorry for the many questions. I just don't want to screw up the balayage after spending so much on it! Thanks.

Hi, purple shampoo can be drying, I used to use mine once a week, I had the milkshake one and also the leave in mousse.
blue shampoo is to cancel out orange, purple yellow so it depends on how dark/what your colour is, Matrix do a good blue one.

Mine is washed in purple shampoo every 3 weeks at the hairdressers when I get my roots done. It's enough to keep the highlights bright.
