Outfit help for wedding -few months post-partum

EL8888 · 02/08/2023 08:34

I have been invited to a wedding this autumn but l feel a bit lost style wise after having twins a few months ago. l bought this outfit as all of my clothes seem to fit in a weird way at the moment

How should l style it? I have given up on high heels pretty much -especially as twins have been invited to the wedding. Any advice is much appreciated

Are you set on this dress? I'll be honest from the front it looks too big for you, and the style with the dipped hem wouldn't work well with flats I don't think.

EL8888 · 02/08/2023 16:39

@caerdydd12 It’s a top and skirt combo l didn’t realise it was too big. l have lost my way so lm more than happy to get guidance! I don’t mind low or medium heels but high ones are out

Others will be better at the whole styling thing than me, so please don't take what I say to heart! You just have a lovely figure and I feel it's not being elevated.

anon2022anon · 02/08/2023 18:23

The back is lovely, but I think the top looks like it might be a size too big for you. Might be worth trying on one size under? And I agree that shoes might be a bit difficult with the skirt line, but not a write off at all 😊 if you were to keep it I think I would go gold bag/ accessories personally. Do you feel nice in it?

If you're open to suggestions, tell us a bit about yourself and I'll have a hunt. Size, any areas you're self conscious about?

Honestly no offence taken. Some outside perspective was handy

Thanks for the suggestions. They’ve sold out of the green but they have it in black or navy

I do feel nice in it. Most of my other clothes feel odd -pregnancy changed my shape. Top and skirt were in a 12. I definitely can’t go smaller in the skirt. Im now self conscious about my breasts as they deflated from being 34DD 😢

Congratulations on your twins and for getting back into great shape. I don’t think that outfit does much for you. As others have said, the top is too large albeit the back is really nice. I am not that keen on the skirt either. It doesn’t flatter your figure.

Here’s a guide to dressing your shape. I get you feel differently now your boobs have shrunk but you have considerably more than me! The website is called petite dressing for some reason but I found the explanations really straightforward. https://blog.petitedressing.com/top-heavy/

If you see something you like, also see if you can tell the body shape of the model and if it will look right on you. As an example of this (I’m not saying the dress is right for the wedding). But see how she has much narrower hips than shoulders.

Congratulations on your twins!

It’s great that you feel comfortable in your outfit - but, honestly, it’s not the best. It looks very, very old fashioned. (My mother is in her nineties and absolutely wouldn’t wear it.) At a size 12 there’s no reason why you shouldn’t wear something cool and contemporary.

Could you say where you usually shop? Perhaps the thread could introduce you to some new places to consider, going forward, even if you do wear this outfit for the wedding.

MarciaSaysANumber · 03/08/2023 06:49

(Because I’m delaying getting up for a long day …) I had a look for some green dresses (as your green outfit doesn’t appear to be geared to any specific function) that look more contemporary and could be worn to a wedding. Varying price points. I’m not suggesting you buy any of them. Details on enlarged photos.

Your green top has sleeves that cut you off in the middle and might make you look wider than you are. Although I wouldn’t suggest anyone in a rainy UK should buy pale green linen a few weeks before Autumn, I do think the bodice and sleeves of this Massimo Dutti dress would work really well on you.

Plus two others, one simple, one complicated in cut, both lovely.

Sorry, repeated the Aje dress. Three more:

Do you need separates or is a dress ok? I’m thinking about whether or not you are breastfeeding.

How tall are you?

MarciaSaysANumber · 03/08/2023 07:04

(That was my thought also, @Mummyoflittledragon - but the dark green separates don’t seem geared to that.)

What's your budget?

The top looks ok from the back but terrible from the front. I don't like dipped hem skirts, but trying to be objective that's still not a nice version and it doesn't go with the top.

I agree dipped hems don't work with flats, although a long skirt with an even hem is fine.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/08/2023 21:33

Idk what you like or your budget. But I would maybe go one shoulder or off the shoulder unless you need to be warm. I wouldn’t do the dark green as I don’t think it suits your colouring.

Lipsy - with Lycra, navy

A bit more daring and higher budget, no lycra

Both have a slightly higher waist and streamlined skirt, which I think could work on your body shape.

This lipsy dress is lovely. I did buy it for me but the top half was too big. Next seem to be quite a generous cut on the breast.

If you want more coverage, what about this sort of thing form never fully dressed.

Or a Reiss dress. They do this in the teal colour. But I think from the pics, this would suit your colouring more but not 100% sure as is difficult to say with just what you’ve shown.
