Home dye?

Used to regularly go the hairdressers and think nothing of spending £100 + on full head of highlights , simply cannot afford that now and am seriously thinking of the only thing cost wise is box dye, has anyone made the transition with success? My hair for reference is peppered with grey so I have full head of highlights to try to disguise it.
I work Monday to Friday so can't manage hairdresser college for a cheap fix.
Anyone have any suggestions please?

I feel the same! I’m very grey at the front and have been having it done every 6 weeks, it’s just gone up to £110 and I don’t want to pay that anymore.

I did this and I also have the peppered grey roots. I bought a big bottle of 3% developer (might show as 10 volume but it's the same thing) and then I just buy professional dye online. I bought my stuff from Amazon, and use Swarzkopf Igora Royal (permanent dye) Swarzkopf Igora Vibrance (semi permanent dye) or Wella Koleston Perfect (permanent dye). Obviously this won't give you highlights but if you're happy to go one colour then I swear by it.

I use box dye and think it gives good results but it took trying a few different ones to get s colour I was happy with.
