I've never worn a transparent summer skirt, where are you getting them from?

I wear anti chafe shorts to prevent thigh chafing but I've never needed anything to prevent a skirt from being see through.

Yes. I like M&S cool comfort slips. Avoids VPL, and the skirt/dress sits better

StarlightLady · 30/07/2023 10:55

For day wear but not at work, I just wear them with pale pink or peach coloured knickers.

NatashaDancing · 30/07/2023 10:57

I only wear dresses but I always wear a slip under an unlined dress.

Noorandapples · 30/07/2023 11:01

I'm sick of wearing leggings and shorts under dresses, I've just bought some slip dresses too. Ridiculous amount of dresses and skirts are transparent in bright sunlight, it's cheaper for them to manufacture them unlined. Very easy for wealthier folk to say "just buy good quality lined clothes" but most of us can't actually spend £100 on dresses.

I have some M&S cotton waist slips & I've just bought a nude cotton full length slip for under a Kaftan.

I have some from Uniqlo airism range

Very few dresses, especially summer dresses, are lined at most prices. I have lined dresses but they're mostly winter dresses.

There are 2 revelations for me here. I've never considered wearing leggings or shorts under dresses (until hearing about their existence on here I'd never heard of chub rub shorts. I'm not slim by any means but whatever chub rub is I don't have it) The other revelation is that wearing slips under dresses is apparently not done. I've always done that. It makes the dress hang better.

I’ve been doing this since my late 20s. The skirts hang better, instead of getting caught on my enormous bum. Plus, if your dress blows up in the wind then the slip is normally a bit tighter so preserves your dignity. I am Team Petticoat all the way.

I have a few transparent ones, one especially see through wasn't cheap Benetton but very see through in the sunlight.

"very see through in the sunlight." You'll be fine in the UK at the moment then.

And to be honest, unless you are going commando does it matter? I'm not bothered if someone sees a hint of knicker through a summer skirt.

Unless it's a heavy material like denim a slip makes an unlined dress or skirt hang better.

My mother always wore slips or a petticoat and insisted they made clothes hang better. What I really need to do is make the effort to find some workaday silk slips or petticoats ie not lingerie a la Janet Reger /Coco de Mer for summer when it’s really hot and my dress/skirt is very light .

mm47 · 30/07/2023 19:59

Sorry forgot about asterisks emboldening

HeddaGarbled · 30/07/2023 20:04

No. It’s summer. If it’s warm enough to wear a summer dress, it’s too warm for any extra layers, slip, leggings, whatever.

I just wouldn’t buy it if it’s see-through.
