Packable hat that packs ok

Any recommendations for packable hats that look ok when you pack them? I’ve tried a few from various shops and various price ranges and they always end up crumpled and unusable. I’ve tried rolling and still no luck

Hmm I think I’d look for a visor rather than a hat, more chance of it packing well. Lots around at the mo

It depends how hardcore a hat you need. I am very fair so I have a Solabri one. I shove it in my bag every day but I get compliments when I wear it.

Thenamesnotbond · 29/07/2023 18:56

Thankyou both. I hadn’t thought of a viser and will look at solabri

If you go the visor route be careful of your scalp - a scorched head is very painful!

I bought one from Amazon a couple of years ago it's great

The best way to pack a hat is to put it in the case upside down, and put rolled up socks both around it to hold the brim up and flat, and inside it. But the secret is to do it in a way that holds it slightly too concave, rather than slightly too convex. If it has been squashed inwards a bit, your head will correct it. If it has been squashed out, it won’t.

Or just don’t worry about it too much, because I have never been to an even vaguely touristy destination that doesn’t have at least ten shops selling every kind of sun hat you could possibly wish for for about a fiver.

I bought a paper/straw bucket type one from Primark before I went away on a massive road trip round France in June. It has a wire brim so you can reshape it as you wish. Survived being stuffed behind the car seat and in my bag on many occasions and didn't blow off my head with the roof down!

I just wear mine on the journey. Great for early morning hair. Have it on my lap on the plane.

Thenamesnotbond · 29/07/2023 22:19

Thanks for the tips about the visor and how to pack hats. I’d probably sit on it and squash it if I wore it on the plane 😀

I'm mulling over one of these www.wallaroohats.co.uk/scrunchie-upf50/#description which I've seen recommended on here.

Fedupwitheveryone · 29/07/2023 22:55

I bought this one recently and rolled it and shoved in suitcase. It was fine when I arrived and I walked around in the sun in Italy for days and it was not crumpled - impressed and happy with it

Have you looked at a Tilley hat?

I massively second the recommendation for a Tilley. Mine goes on all my adventures with me. She's not keen on rain, but will accept the odd shower.
